Thanks Kendall. This rod isn't really to be used the person just wants to keep it as a family momento. That sounds like a repair that would not be that noticeable.

A friend call me today to ask if I could repair an old fiberglass rod that has some sentimental value to his family about 10' from the end the fiberglass has a split / delamination. Is it possible to do a repair. Maybe coat the area with epoxy or maybe better to maybe put a size A thread wrap over the split. Looks to be a 6ft medium wt spinning rod.

I did a couple test wraps with size A thread and it was good. The rod is a Phenix blank 6'9"MF. Its nice and has great feel its the first blank Ive done that is the bare carbon finish. Right now the plan is a split grip with tiger wrap above the fore grip. Thanks guys for the info and suggestions.

I am about to start a new build on a Med L . bare carbon blank. I am wondering does the slight ridges of the bare carbon create any issues with keeping threads tight together. I was wondering if I should lightly sand the area I am planning on wrapping and would that compromise the integrity of the rod at all. Are these better suited for color epoxy designs. Or should I just use a larger thread. T

I am in process of building something similar. The blank Im using is the Phenix Elixir 5'6" UL. I turned a 7-1/2" cork grip and using a standard polymer reel seat. I plan on using a 1000 size reel. I want to find a Stradic fj 1000. I am super pleased with the feel of the rod. Great price for the blank also $49.

Well I emailed the maker and they handled it perfect. They have a new blank being sent and they sent a return label for me to return the blank that is now on the way back to them. Cant ask for much better service than that.

Thanks Mark, Its not a real expensive $95 blank but not super cheap.I think I will contact the maker and see what kind of response I get. I had just built a rod on the same model blank and that one when turning had no wobble at all. I had also just got an UL blank from Phenix so I looked down that blank and put it on the wrapper and it is straight as an arrow.

Hey guys. I just got a new 6'6" med. fast action inshore blank. While checking it out trying to decide what exactly I want to do I was sighting down the rod and notice at about 5'4" or so from the butt end there is a subtle bend. I chucked the rod into my wrapper and turned it on the dryer motor. The bend equates to about a 5/16" wobble at the tip. The wobble is pretty much on the

I did a similar post a couple weeks ago. a couple suggestions were the Phenix Elixir 5'6" UL blank. so I did order it. I got the rod a couple days ago. It feels awesome. I am still trying to decide if I am doing single grip or split grip and what I want to do with it. I have been playing around with multi color epoxy over a colored thread but I don't want to make it to heavy. So I'll probabl

thanks for all the suggestions. I ordered one of the Phenix Elixer blanks. Looks like I finally might be able to build a rod for under $200. :) That remains to be seen though..

Thanks Russ. Most of the fishing I do is in the Crystral River area. We mostly use 7' M - MH with 2500-3000 size Stradics. Before I started building my go to rods are either Loomis or St.C. So far I havent been saving much money on building my own but I am getting some cooler looking rods. On this next build I will probably pick up a Stradic 1000 to use. Hopefully I can find an Fj. I will check o

most will be 1/8 some 3/16. for the most part there will be plenty of room but there are some areas I like to fish where I am dealing with brush.

Hey guys I would like to get some suggestions for an Ultra Light blank. I plan on using it for wading for trout in the river throwing rooster tails and such. probably in the 5'6' length range. I just finished a Carbon 4 series medium 6' and I was real pleased with how that rod feels. There is a Carbon 2 series has a 5'6" UL. How do those compare to the C-4.
Thanks for recommendations

I do the same as David B. if you have enough room to stand back a few feet and the rod looks level then its probably going to be very very close. I would think all you guys that have a pretty good eye.

thanks for the advise that makes sense to push the thread towards itself rather than force it to separate.

Thanks guys. I did use D size thread on the complete wrap and that makes sense stepping down off of A size thread will be better. I had the tag end pulled under 4 or 5 wraps I'll do more next try. It came out great except for that final end. Its not terrible there are a couple spots at the end I just cant get the dark blue to completely pack over the last tan wrap. But a flaw is a flaw and thats

Hey guys this is my first post. I have been reading for quite sometime but have just gotten going in my rod building. Today on my 2nd rod ever I wrapped about 8" from the fore grip towards the tip in a dark blue. After that I did a 2 color cross wrap on top of the blue with 2 shades of tan. finishing up I did about 1" on the top wrap in tan on the reel seat end. That end went ok Im gues
