Just a hearty thank you to all that offered information regarding the use of Flexcoat to restore the finish on older rods that I am rebuilding for practise.
I did receive a number of answers that were both pro and con, however I have decided to go with Jesse Buky's advice and go with the Flexcoat finish. After all he has been using it in his business for quite a few years and has never had an

A question for those who know.
I am rebuilding old rods (in good condition) bought at yard sales for a couple of bucks.

Thanks to all: I had a few minutes tonight while I waited for the color preserver to dry. So I decided to try and remove the grip and handle I had previously sked for ideas on.
I am happy to report that I was able to remove them just as Tom Kirkman described. Only took me about one half hour to complete the job. Thanks to all who came to my rescue.

I cut off one of the guides with an exacto knife held level to the rod so as not t

My first time on this forum! I just started building rods a couple of months ago. Built the first one for myself. Now building two more for Christmas presents. Word has been getting around locally that I have been doing a fair job of it. Consequently I am being asked to repair rods for friends etc. as no one else does it here where I live.
Now a friend has brought me an old Fenwick HMXF
