What's the max lure rating for the SJ 736-1 X-Ray? I know NFC website states 1oz, but I've heard from people it has a soft tip. Anyone have power rating test done on this blank?

I used 11+1 number of guides. I didn't have to bend the guides to keep the line off the blank, but it helped a little more. Like I said, it's probably not very practical to do so, but I haven't had much issues in doing so. I should mention, I didn't use a tool to bend the guides, just my fingers, it doesn't take much effort on the Titanium guides, and they bend back no problem at all. I don

Thank you Jim, and everyone else. I have finally got it pretty much where I want it to be. I figured it all out by static load testing after wrapping the stripper guide and the first guide behind the tiptop to the blank. I put the choke guides closer to the stripper guide and the first couple of running guides closer to the tiptop. The middle guides are about 4"-5" from each other

I recently started a new casting rod build and I can't wrap my head around the guide spacing for this blank; Point Blank 731MXF 7'3" I've completely redone my other rods and none of them have the line touching the blank under load. I used the same amount of guides on all my rods that range from 7' to 7'2". (11+Tip Top) KW8 > KW6 > KW 5.5 > KB5 x3 > KT5 x5 > TipT

I’m from Texas too. I use (2) locking wraps on my KT runners. Not needed on the KB, they hold solid.

To me, sensitivity is the feedback transmitted back through the line, guides, and blank. The lighter the blank the greater the sensitivity. My big heavy action rods require something more pronounced to feel a feedback. The sensitivity is transmitted in the form of micro-vibrations. My rods that are under 4oz, if I use braid or flourocarbon line (little to no stretch) with a dense weight lik

I think from now on I'm going to do it this way; KW10 > KW6 > KW5.5 > KB5 > KB5 > KB5> KB5 > KT5 >*>*>*> 5.5 Arowana TipTop. And the stripper guide being 20-21" from the front of the reel.

Lance, thanks for the insight. A lot of what you said crossed my mind. With every rod I build I’m getting better, and I’ve enjoyed using something I’ve created with my hands compared to the rods I’ve bought. It surprised me that even rods from high end manufacturers also have flaws even if they are acceptable. I will take what everyone has said into consideration. Thanks, Lance Schrecke

Thanks for all the replies guys, much appreciated. It irks me that Mudhole would sell this, Fuji recommends at least 3 KB guides after the stripper guide but they only include 1 with the kit. I’ve bought several of these Fuji Titanium Torzite kits, they aren’t cheap. But luckily this specific blank is the only one that’s given me the problem. The other builds seem fine. I am somewhat of a per

Thanks Norm, But I am wanting to redo the guides using what I already have. Are you telling me to ditch the 7KW stripper altogether? Rainshadow guide spacing blueprint recommends 11 guides + Tiptop. I would prefer to just stick with the recommend amount of guides. Can I do the 10KW to 7KW to 6KB then the 5KT runners? I don’t want a spare 7KW and a 6KB guide laying around. note: I

Hello, Recently I decided I wanted to redo my guide spacing on a medium power Bass rod I built when I first got into this hobby. It’s a Rainshadow Eternity 7’2 Medium blank with Fuji K torzite guides (11 + Tip-top). I did not follow the manufacturers guide spacing chart and used a Fuji guide spacing chart that came with my Fuji guide kit from Mudhole. Recently, after load testing the blank I

I've had zero issues with micro guides. I think people just hate change. Then again....I tie a FG knot.

I build off a general purpose formula given by Fuji. After it’s wrapped, I static load test it before epoxy. So far I haven’t had any issues all my rods can handle horsing in big fish. I can cast 70-75 yards with my 7ft bass rods with a 3/8 weight. My stripper guide is normally 23 to 24 inches away from the center of my casting seat on a 7ft to 7ft 2in rod. Both my G loomis and St.Croix

Brian, the Eternity 7’2 Medium Fast Blank has a lure rating of 1/4-3/4. I hope it has enough backbone. I don’t see NFC manufacturing the Eternity blanks as a bad thing. Having already built a NFC HMX rod, I would be more than thrilled if the Eternity blank is anything close to it.

I'm building a new rod for my Daiwa Steez A TW. The Application will be for light to medium power jig/worm/pitching for Largemouth Bass. I keep my builds light and simple. The blank is a Rainshadow Eternity ETEC72M-SS. Tom is correct. You cannot add anything to the blank to make it more sensitive, it is or isn’t. Anything you add before the reel seat will only dampen the sensitivity . A lot of bass blanks today are designed with large butts because it acts as a megaphone for vibrations down the blank. High modulus blanks are inherently more sensitive due to a denser compacted material but more prone to failing

This is my experience with Point Blank blanks. I've only built one rod using their 7ft MH/F blank. The weight was heavier than advertised. (1.94oz). I weighed it with a scale and it was actually 2.36oz. What I used: Full cork handle, Fuji ECSM 16, no foregrip, 11+tip top Fuji Torzite micro K series guides. The rod came out super light, and responsive, no problem detecting bites. I've se

Hello everyone, I ordered a Point Blank blank PB731MHXF, would it be a bad idea to trim the blank down from the butt end from 87" to 85"? What changes could I expect from doing this? I'm using the rod for Texas Rigs ranging from 1/4-3/8oz. Thank you,

I really wish I read this thread before placing an order for an X-ray Blank. They took my money and I'm 4 weeks in and my order is still "processing". A local tackle shop near me has PB on sale for 20% off. I built my cousin a casting rod with PB701MHF, I've been really impressed. My only complaint with the blank is the PB website advertises the blank weighing 1.94oz but I weighed th
