Hello.. I have been turning my own cork handles on a lathe with excellent results. I have been using a 1/4 inch mandrel. I am haveing a heck of a time getting the cork reemed out and keeping the hole centered. I was wondering what all of you did who built handles on a lathe to get the handles mounted up centered on the blank? Thank You, Jeremy

I think Larry hit one of my bigger concerns on the head. As Tom suggested I got the Measurements of the seat. Now it is a question of my reel fitting. I guess I will have to order it and try it. Thanks, Jeremy

I am new to rod building and wanted to use a fly seat on my spinning rod build. Specifically one with the concealed front hood. Spinning seats are sized 16,17,18 etc. Fly seats seem to be 7,8,9. So does an 8 in a fly rod seat = an 18 in a spinning seat? Also, Is there any other issues using a fly seat on a spinning rod? Thank You, Jeremy

I am in the process of specing out my first 2 rods that I am going to. I am building my Dad a 9' lamiglass 6-10lb 9 foot rod. I am going to build myself the same in a CTS. I have decided to use #6 guides from the intersection point to the tip top as we will be using 8lb test line on these rods. If I am going to use #6 guides there would I use a #6 tip top? We fish a lot in the winter in

I just picked up some gutermann thread from Jo-Ann Fabrics as all of their thread is half off right now. Has anyone used this for wrapping eyes? It says it is 100% Viscose. I am new ot the rod building and really like being able to see the colors before i buy. I was just wondering if this would be ok for rod building? Jeremy

Tom- I think I worded my above question a little confusing. I refrence to the choke guide: In your book it says: "... run a string through the centerline of the reel spool untill it intersects the rod blank. Mark this point of intersection. This is where you will locate your choke guide (pg. 26)" In the online artical it says: "Note the point where the rod blank interse

Hello... I am new to rod building and have been reading a ton. I have been a lurker on this board for a while and have compiled all kinds of questions especially on guide placement... but just a few to start with. I have read the guide placement artical in the library as well ad Tom's Book multiple times. In the library artical it says to locate the intersection point then place the guide siz
