Thank you everyone for the help. The temporary answer for me was the rubber band on the butt, helps to hold the rod in place very well. The permanent fix looks like an upgrade in the future to the Alps chuck, which is cheaper and has much better features than the PacBay, very disappointed with that purchase.

Hello, I have the American Tackle Company Power Wrapper with the upgraded PacBay chuck and as my rod turns it slowly creeps out of the chuck. Has anyone else had this problem? How can I make it stop? It’s driving me nuts.

Tom, I may try that, but like I mentioned, the two sections have significantly different ODs. Do you think doing that will still give me an advantage?

Hello all, hoping for some quick advice on a build I’m about to start. The blank is a Phenix Titan Popping rod, 2-piece construction. The part I’m having trouble with is the fact that the lower section has no taper whatsoever, the diameter of the upper and lower sections are quite different. I’d like to have hypalon grips but I figure I’ll have a @#$%& of a time sliding them on, as I cannot use t

Hello again,
I recently finished a rod that I'm particularly proud of, with the exception of one pretty major issue that really bothers me. I usually use flexcoat finish and I've had zero issues with it. This time, I decided to use ProKote as I had a stash I'd never used. The final product looks very nice BUT the finish seems soft, I can leave an impression with a fingernail pretty easily. I'm p

I just (almost) finished my first tiger wrap and it looks awesome! I'm putting off finishing the tiger wrap until I get the low down from the pros. I'm very paranoid of disturbing the outer wrap when applying finish, any suggestions?

I intend on installing an aluminum Alps reel seat on an upcoming build and the ID of the seat is about 1/10" larger than the blank, would a larger ID be recommended? Seems kind of like a silly question, but what is the optimum gap between the blank and the reel seat? Does the material of the seat play into this?

Hello,
I have some high build flex coat resin that has "fogged up" I warmed it up and mixed it around and it has gone back to clear but am afraid to use it now. Has anyone else had this problem?

Hello all, I'd like to thank all of you who have been so helpful providing tips to helping a buddy out fixing his first build errors. I've gotten to the point now the the guides have been removed as well as all of the epoxy that was spread along the length of the blank. The epoxy came off surprisingly easy, FYI the plastic butter knife was the best tool I could find for the job. As far as I can t

I'm assisting a friend repair a rod build gone wrong and I'm making significant progress. The rod in question is a somewhat expensive two piece popping rod (Phenix Titan) I have removed the grips, winding check and all of the finish on the bottom section, the only thing left is the reel seat (which was mounted upside down). It is a very nice aluminum Alps reel seat, any suggestions on removin

I appreciate the advice, I actually have some of the drywall tape, though I haven't used it yet. I'm trying to comprehend how you described using it: were you saying to epoxy the tape let it cure, then epoxy the reel set to the cured tape; similarly to using an arbor or am I misunderstanding your description?
I do believe that we will strip the rod down to bare bones and start over again, ther

Hello! First time post for me. I've been building rods now for a short time (a couple years), it has been very rewarding and has brought me a few new friends. One of which has recently completed his first few rods. He tested a few of them the other day on a charter and caught a few nice fish. Unfortunately he had a few issues, which is why he came to me and, like I said am not an expert rod build
