I intend on installing an aluminum Alps reel seat on an upcoming build and the ID of the seat is about 1/10" larger than the blank, would a larger ID be recommended? Seems kind of like a silly question, but what is the optimum gap between the blank and the reel seat? Does the material of the seat play into this? Re: Quick reel seat question

the material doesn't play
rough up the inside of the seat and fit it with just 2 small arbors of tape and epoxy it up thoroughly and your good to go The best day to be alive is always tomorrow !! I agree that Matthew has it right, will only add that the tape arbors should be totally encapsulated in epoxy to prevent deterioration if water gets to them. He says "small" while I would say 1 inch tape. The gap you mention will only require a buildup of .050 inches, and is fine. If it were significantly larger I would opt for a full length rigid foam arbor with plenty of epoxy. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
