Pro wrap Tiger thread is nylon so you will need CP to preserve the color. Check out You Tube, there is a video of all the colors used with and without CP.

Great Work!
Don’t worry about being intimidated at the Show. This year was my first opportunity to go, and it was Awesome. Everyone there was easy going and willing to take the time to share experiences and answer questions.

Good Morning,
Full disclosure I am new to fly fishing and have limited experience. I did a 6 Weight American Tackle Matrix and enjoy using it. It was definitely a Budget Build for me so I can learn more about the technique. A lot of information in this thread, it is amazing what we can learn from all that share their experience.

Good Evening Tom,
That was my wife Cindy Lees that won the Grand Prize! Thank You for putting together the exposition, and Thank You for the opportunity to win such a great tool. I am still trying to figure out where we are going to put it in the shop. I hope to try it on the next build.
Thanks again

I just had the Same thing happen with what we call Stink Bugs to a customers Rod.
I have to get a drying box set-up, all of my productivity ends when finishing starts.

Good evening,
I have stripped the Rod completely and will install the grips from the tip. I think the Goo I have encountered was from whatever they used for the arbors. It looked to be like a double sided tape possibly. In addition to that, the owner made Field repairs with electrical tape. I will try the acetone in the handle area for a final clean up before fitting the Grips and seat.
Thank

Thanks, that’s pretty much what I am doing. Scraping and cleaning with Isopropyl. It’s not as bad now that some of the adhesive is set up, it was pretty gooey when I removed the seat and Foregrip..
Just looking for that secret sauce to reduce the amount of elbow grease required.
Maybe I could get some of

Good morning,
I am refurbishing a St.Croix Legend Rod that is painted. What can I use to help cut through the Gunk from the arbors under the handle and seat without damaging the Paint or the blank?
Thank You

Good Evening,
I went with 2 part epoxy, because I had it on hand. I cleaned the thread wraps and blank with a Toothbrush and 90% isopropyl alcohol. I allowed the wraps to dry for a couple days and removed any residue film left with a coffee filter. Coated the wraps with Color preserver. The wraps aren’t Snow White, but the epoxy went on fine and will keep the Rod in service for awhile. Can’t wa

Thank for all your responses, I will let you all know how it works out.
I disassembled, cleaned and lubricated the reel it came with and it should work fine for my limited experience.
Thanks Again

I have a South Bend 32080 Fly Rod that Is in great shape but the thread wraps need finish. I have cleaned up the Rod, Reel Seat and guides. The wraps are in great condition cleaned up pretty good (White)but the finish is gone. Should I use Epoxy? Or Varnish to coat the wraps? It is basically a Rod Rescue project for me to practice on, and use. I am concerned epoxy may not adhere well and have issu

Color Preserver worked well. I was unsure initially if I should use it over a coat of epoxy.

I Coated The Label areas with Flex Coat Color Preserver, Gave both areas a coat of epoxy. On the Drier for 20minutes so far, no issues yet. Time will tell.

I have one small spot on a Decal that has repelled epoxy. After searching the forum archives I see many solutions and probable causes. Through knowledge learned here and repetition I have become fairly proficient at finishing, however I still ended up with a small spot. I Think this spot was caused by my warming the area with my Bubble Buster Torch. Everything was great until I used the torch as

21. Re: Epoxy Finish
I had a similar issue, the epoxy worked fine however I wish I didn’t use it on a White Blank. It was a Rod I built for myself so not a real big deal. I won’t use white again, and I try to keep my In used epoxy in the dark.

I have used it on my Last 2 Builds and I like it a lot. I was getting more proficient with Pro Kote, but I feel like this product handles better for me. The results I have gotten on my guide wraps are excellent in 2 coats. My Label finishing was also better however it still needs work. Full disclosure I am still learning, only 12 Rods and Misc Repairs.

Hello All,
Does anyone have a Video tutorial on applying finish over Rod Labels and long areas. I am still in the Trial and error stages of this process. I have been successful in the rest of my finishing techniques. My Guide wrap finishes are nearly perfect but I still struggle getting Long areas flat. The build I just finished I used Flex coat CP on the Blank before applying labels and applie

26. JTOB Thread Size
Hello,
Can you mix thread sizes for inlay work? I am practicing JTOB and my leaf inlays don’t show well. I am using size A thread, I am going to try using D for the inlay, and A for the main Wrap. It seems like most of the tutorials are done using size D thread.
All opinions are welcomed.
Thanks

I use the Flexcoat Guide adhesive for wrapping It takes some practice but it does work. I use rubber tubing for static testing.

That sounds like a solid plan. I may take your advice, or I may try to trim it. I seem to be get a collection of reel seats I can’t use. I will see if I can get the id of the 17 handle.

Hello
I am making a Split Grip Spinning Rod with CFX Grips and a CRB Comfort Palm Swell Reel seat. I am coating the grips with Pro Kote, and I plan on finishing them with Rodancer. I need to trim the grip to fit into the handle. Can I cut the grip and create a tenon? I was thinking I can cut the Carbon where it fits inside the handle and that would create enough relief for the grip to fit insid
