Herb the rod is for me and the action is fast... if I went with the torzite k guides would you recommend the 16 12 reduction train that I mentioned above or would you use something different?

I'm building a 9' 9wt fly rod that will be exclusively used in saltwater, in the surf and inshore. I'm thinking about using fuji k guides with titanium frames starting with a kw 16 and then a kw12 for my reduction train. What would be the a good running guide size? Thanks

Tom your first response made the most sense. I just couldn't visualize it in my head for some reason. A small shim right before the reel seat should work perfectly...
Thanks for your help

so in theory I could use masking tape as a shim just like a reel seat and ream the cork after the decorative wrap was finished?
Or just wrap all the to the reel seat and ream to fit? Will the epoxy paste adhere to the finish like it would the black?

I may be over thinking this but here goes. I'm building a 9wt fly rod and I'd like to do a cross wrap and have it come seamlessly out from the end of my cork grip. I assume I would ream the cork to get a good fit first then start my wrap a little before where the cork grip is going to end. After tying off the wrap and putting a light coat of finish on it I'm concerned the added thickness is go

Thanks everyone for the input. Going to leave the under wrap because my girlfriend likes it and the rod is mostly for her and going with one d size over.

I've read that a size thread is actually stronger due to the fact that there actually more wraps than the d size. Would I be better off using the a size for a single over wrap or sticking with the d?

I'm wrapping the guides on a surf rod. Just finished wrapping the first guide and I put a underwrap and then two over wraps all using D size thread. My question is do I really need two over wraps or is it just overkill? The rod will be used by my girlfriend who will be using it for lite bottom fishing and I'll be using it to throw 2-3oz plugs, spoons, and other types of lures for tarpon, rooster

Rainshadows are manufactured in China as well. Not 100% sure on this but I was told that most of them are now. That being said I have a couple of Rainshadow rods and I love them both!

Just finished my first rod a 13' heaver. I put three coats of TM light build for my finish. Now I guess I'm wondering how long should I wait before taking it out and casting it? Im excited to go try it out but not at the expense of having to repair it right off the bat lol... Put the last coat on the first guide about 18 hours ago. It isn't tacky but feels softer than the guides on the tip s

Thank you everyone for the help. David watched Lou's video and that definitely seems like the best way for me to come up with the spacing. I'll probably go with a size 10 running guide just to be sure I can pass the shock leader knots through them when my girlfriend is chunking with it. Still unsure about using the kw's all the way to the tip only because I've never seen it done before. May t

As far as guide type would it be better to run the k series guides or stick with the BSVAG's? If so which guides would be best suited to use as the running guides? Was thinking about using the k series as reduction guides and then BMNAG's for the choker and running guides up to the tip. Does anyone see any issues with this?

whats the best method to load the rod to make sure you are following the loaded contour of the black? run the line through the guides attached by surgical tubing then use weight to load the rod and adjust as necessary? Seems like it would work in theory...

Hello everyone, I'm new to rod building and I'm looking for some advice on guides to use on a Carolina Cast Pro Series 11' 2-5oz blank. I was given specs for how they make their rods but was curious
if maybe different guides would possibly work better. The guide type and sizes that were supplied were Fuji BSVAG 40,30,25,20,16,12,12... with a 12 Fuji BPOT tip. He also provided the spacing the
