Was able to get one very early and built a rod just recently Those who pick up this rod can't believe how light the entire build is with GS2 grips and the AT carbon reel. Very comfortable. Will look to use again for sure.

Finally got around to putting this all together and very impressed with the fit and ease. The G2 seats were very easy to fit and put together, easy excess cleanup and look great. I do think I will use the 3k finish going forward but the Bushido finish looks good too! The Aero CCT seat is the icing! It fit perfect and looks very cool in the light or in the sun.

Aero seats are the only seat I use on light spinning rods. The CCT seat just adds another option to top end builds. The feel of the aero is natural and comfortable. Comfort finish is also a great feel.
If you need a seat painted, the basic seat painted by Don Shafar turns out awesome!!!

The set of measurements is a helpful recommendation but certainly not a one size fits all. Yes I start with the placement nearly the same for every build. First two guides to me are nearly always the same. From there as I work towards tip, my static test shows me places I could tweak a little bit. Many times on shorter builds I don’t use them all. I’ve also found having the extra guide on li

I switched to the microwave system exclusively for ease of setup. As I learned to build in 2015, I would freak out about guide train, guide size, spacing, number guides etc. I ordered microwave guides and learned real fast the ease of laying out a rod. Building mostly panfish and bass rods in Indiana, I was blown away by how well owners loved these guides. Durability, looks and the ease of ca

As a newer builder my like of these guides is ease of use on top of the added features. I build mostly 7' or shorter medium action and less rods. My last few builds have all been airwave or microwaves. Placement is easy and needs little adjusting. If you have a shorter rod, place first three guides as instructed and place what you need to the tip. Makes life easy! The guys I have built for

I've really gotten into ice rods and enjoy building them. Am I crazy to look at a power wrapper to help spin these little rods? I've been kicking it around but is it worth my money and is it beneficial for ice and regular rods? I've been using the crb hand wrapper from mud hole but curious if the power wrapper will be better? I don't want to lose my control I feel I have today.
If you have

Hey all,
Thanks for the advice and sorry for being vague! It just didn't look real great a couple hours after doing it but this morning in normal light it looks pretty good. I use a bright table lamp while working and i could see some tiny imperfections in the finish. I used color preserver on my decal and all around it. I also used it on the whole area because i have had trouble with fish

I'll see what it looks like in the morning and then make a decision!

Not fish eyed I don't think. Just doesn't look good around decal and on it. Probably being too critical and should just leave it alone or I'll make it worse. Lol!
Thanks for the replies!

I just finished a rod where I epoxied a large area to cover decals and hook keeper. After watching for some time I left it and not pleased with what I see now. Can I just use a second coat to fill in a couple places or do I need to smooth it down and epoxy the whole thing again? If yes, how do I go about doing it without ruining anything. This is a Christmas gift bought by a friend and want t

Do you guys use clear tape or colored? I got some samples and the clear looks pretty crummy to me. The black with silver looks great.

Does anyone use this system? I'd like to make custom decals with customer names or rod specs without ordering them from decal connection. I will for sure keep using them for color graphics.. Wanting to know if this system makes a descent decal for what I'm wanting to do?

21. Ice rod guides
I'm wanting to build some ice rods (the whole reason I started this madness). I plan to build 24-26" rods for panfish. Any suggestions on number of guides and sizes. I can compare to some store bought ones I have but thought I'd pick everyone's brain on what they like. Simple and functional, that's what I am after to start with.

22. Re: Sticky epoxy
Thanks all! I didn't realize it was that sensitive. Probably need to warm it up down there! I brought it upstairs and it already feels better

It's not been 24. I'll give it some more time. I build in my basement and of course it's a little cooler there too. I'll give it all night tonight and see what I have! Thanks Tom!

24. Sticky epoxy
I am having issues with my epoxy being tacky after several hours of drying. I use syringes and measure and stir for three minutes like it says too. Most of the time it's good but just did a rod and it's tacky. What am I doing wrong? Can I fix what I've done?

26. Stickers
I know I've asked and read answers before but the search is producing nothing for me.
I have some small team logos to place on a couple rods. Do I put sticker on rod then color preserver then epoxy or do I put down color preserver before and after sticker?
I have used a couple stickers from this guy and they curled just a little with straight epoxy on the decal!
I have these rods sold a

28. Fly rod handle
I am building my first fly rod from components from Mudhole. I have have the cork all reamed out and the reel seat shimmed up with a little tape. My question is i have a metal butt cap that goes in the back of the reel seat. Do i just epoxy that in place? Do i run my blank out flush with the reel seat end or end of the interior arbor in the reel seat?
Any help appreciated!

So I can lightly sand down the rod that looks bad? Do I clean it up with 90%+ alcohol after I sand it? Not worried about that rod as much the next one! I have the right alcohol so I just need to make sure I clean the blank up really well?
Thank you for the guidance!
