I have used Duracoat for about 3 years...no problems. It is a paint that is used on guns. I use an air brush with a #3 tip.

Over the years I have had some unusual request for rods....but this one takes the cake. A rod for catching alligators. It will be a casting rod that is at least 8'-0 long. Any suggestions on blank and componets would be greatly appreciated.

Try Janns Netcraft. They have some guides listed under Berkeley SS304. Just received some from them yesterday and I can't see any difference than the ones used on Carrot Stix.

Don't know about Orvis's new rods but I can't find and re-wrap the old Orvis graphite rods made the in the late 70's and early 80's fast enough to meet demand, especially the 7'-6" 6wt. And I am not in a trout fishing area. Guys are using them for pan fish.

I also have that Delta lathe. I got a 3 jaw chuck from Penn State Industries...the screw on type for the headstock. You will need a drill chuck with a MT2 taper for the tailstock.
