Hi Adam - some people use the CRB drying tent to protect against bugs and/or keep other debris off - others use it in combo with the heater to control temp. If you want to check it out: Tent: Heater: Kit:

Yup - we used the SSR tip top on that build. Its a new build/product - so obviously can't comment specifically on longevity with braid yet - but I can say it had no issue passing leader knots - great distance and accuracy. In my humble opinion (with all products - not just the SSR guides) your mileage may vary. I mean if someone is lucky enough to go out fishing everyday for 8 hours - th

Howdy, I work at Mud Hole - and I like light, minimal UL builds. We recently built an MHX metallic 6'6" UL (S781-LBU-MHX) with polished SSRGKMs - I loved it! Used light braid with Flouro leader to throw small squarebills and caught some smaller bass on it - what a blast! To round out the build (in case you were wondering) paired it all with a minimal split grip handle kit (HKS-UL-MS-E1.0

Hi - (disclosure I work at Mud Hole if that matters.). This interesting question reminded me of a conversion I had with Bob (McKamey) at MH just yesterday. Growing up I was fortunate enough to have 4 types of rods, and I still swear if you have these 4 types of rods - you can catch just about anything (freshwater at least). I mention them below with the models I currently use - and have prov

Hi William - I know opinions vary - but here is mine. I work at Mud Hole and have built many UL rods this year, and the S781-MHX is one of my personal favorites for a few reasons. It's really light and sensitive, and the 6'6" length is great not only for getting lighter stuff out there farther - but the fast (less whippy - as you mentioned) action still allows for great accuracy. Interesting idea - for me I think if I was looking for a type of all in one deal - I'd probably try to find a 2 piece rod that will do the job, and find an extra bottom segment. Probably can cheat the top running guides to work with either spinning or casting - but then you'd have two bottom pieces - one built for casting the other for spinning. Then again, I'd probably just build two rods....

Hi Charlie I run Marketing and Sales at Mud Hole. Sorry to hear about your blank issue. The rod blank in under American Tackle warranty. If you did get it from us, we would be happy to help coordinate that warranty claim with American Tackle. BTW - If you did get it from Mud Hole on closeout, the fact that it was on closeout does not mean it should have any defects in it.

I think Tom's last comment is important to keep in mind - there is no "better" finish - depends on application, and personal preferences. Personally, I like a one coat finish, and I have built dozens of rods that look and work fine. However, after it sets, there have been times I will go back and apply a second thin coat because some of the wraps (especially on the larger guides) wo

Hey Everyone Today we are excited to announce two features added to MudHole.com! New Advanced Tables! We have brought back the table view option for rod blanks; however, these are not your average tables! You can sort them by column, AND still use the facet options (on the far left of each page) to help narrow your search even farther. Here's an example... New Categories! We took wh

Hi Everyone Thanks again for the continued feedback. The rod blanks are obviously causing the most pain right now for some folks, and we are working on bringing a table view option back to the website and hope to have an update in the near future. I was wondering if you all knew of the list view? It is not as condensed as a table view - but might be easier for some to compare blanks. H

Thanks again for everyone's input. On the topic of putting brands under the rod blanks area - keep in mind the rod blanks are already listed by brand and series using the main menu selection BRAND. We just moved it next to ROD BUILDING in case it was not easily seen before. So if you know what brand or series you want to look at, I would use that instead of the general rod blanks categor

Hi Norman Yup - the application facet is not populating like it should - we will look into that. Also, excellent input - maybe a more useful facet like "Type" would be more useful for guides than "Application" (that would include your suggestion for single/double foot, etc..)
