Tom...reconsider what?! I would never do that...I love this place! Have been gone for a bit, but I came back. Just haven't been vocal. I just thought it a bit out of place to see/hear the children bicker here. Just my .02¢

Wow! Haven't been here for a bit....after reading a few posts, seems like there is more animosity and/or bickering than I recall. Hope this isn't going down the tubes....used to be a lot of interesting reads about rod building. Now????

It is a 9ft 2 piece. It is a very plain looking rod. Like a low end rod. No markings other than what I mentioned. It has snake guides with one double foot guide. And this appears to be "broken" loose from the frame...in other words the round part with the insert is loose from the double foot frame. I thought about offering $100 and see what he says. I just thought I would get some op

Hi All... Haven't been here in quite a while. I have an opportunity and am looking for some help. A fellow at work bought a cottage and found a Sage rod inside. The rod is 9ft 6 or 7 weight graphite. It is gray blank with black thread. It has a black alum reel seat. No other markings. Can anyone tell me what this is? And give me an idea of what it may be worth? Thanks in advance for any help/ad

Thanks Tom....I'll look for a large syringe and try that. It feels like it's loose in the mid section of the grip. Not much, but when tossing streamers and longer lines, it is somewhat noticable. Yes, I believe you may be right on the someone not prepping things properly. I guess this is one of the things I have learned. The last couple of rods I built, I spent far more time fitting the grip.

I have a St Croix 9ft 2pc 4wgt that I build about 4-5 years ago. I notice the handle seems to have a bit more "flex" than others. I suspect the epoxy has broke loose inside the handle/grip. Is there a relatively easy method to inject some epoxy into the handle through the cork to help "tighten" this back up? Perhaps a different type of adhesive rather than epoxy? Thanks in ad

OK.... rod is finished! And it looks pretty good. I bought Testors model paint (gold metallic) and a nib type pen. I placed two dots at the ferrule to indicate when the rod is properly aligned, and signed my name and rod info on the butt end. The two dots I sprayed Krylon over prior to covering with epoxy, and the signature I simply applied the epoxy (after letting the paint dry). The signature c

Well I spent about an hour sanding and got the surface pretty smooth. Cleaned as best I could and applied a second coat of epoxy. Right now it is looking pretty good. Thanks for the tips and help. As always, the things you are unsure of are often not as bothersome once you tackle it and do it!! Thanks again for the help. Denny

Good Morning all.... I have been away from this forum for several months....I bought a Harley and (unfortunately for my rod building/fly tying/fishing) have spent a lot of time with the bike! Now I have just epoxied the wraps on a 9 ft 5wt G Loomis blank. The area where I plan to sign did not level out well. These are only 24 hours old. Is it too soon to start sanding? Do I need to start coar

Tom- I apologize if this is the wrong place to post this question, but my son and new wife are in Cancun. We have managed to speak with them a couple of times, and they want out! I have been trying to find out if I can drive to Cancun and retrieve my children. Does anyone have any experience traveling through Mexico? Is this a foolish thought? If anyone has any info, thoughts or suggestions, pl

Steve... Thanks for the input. This certainly helps! This gives me something to suggest. Stupid question.... would I change the guides away from single foot to something different? Is there a style of guide that may be better than another? I would suspect the handle and seat would be more personal preference for him than something "standard" so I am not too concerned about that.

OK guys..... I'm gonna jump in here and ask a couple of questions. I have built 2 rods and am in the process of gathering materials and tools to build more at home(I built these through a local fly shop). I have a friend who is going to Southern Florida this winter for a couple of weeks and he asked if I would build him a fly rod suitable for sea trout, red fish, snook, et al. Being a new guy

Hi all.... I am new to this. I have been reading posts here for a couple of weeks and like what I see. I am a relatively new (5 years) fly fisher and have built 2 rods. I am becoming addicted to all phases of fly fishing. My question... I have "inherited" a used Pac-Bay rod wrapper that needs a motor and replacement plastic rollers. Can anyone direct me to a source for these parts? I
