I use the refrigerator method too, but I also vacuum pack the bottle. It assures no air will work its way in.

Could someone post a picture of this wrap? I'm assuming that the metallic is epoxied first then the colored thread is wrapped and epoxied. Bill

OK, looks like I have a plan. Nothing is worse than going ahead and doing something that doesn't work out and having to buy all over again. Thanks, Bill

I bought a NTR casting seat from MH which calls for a carbon insert. I understand that the insert is cemented to the blank but how does one keep the opening of the reel seat from filling with epoxy when it is slid over the insert? Is there a procedure or do I need to carefully clean the epoxy from the opening in the seat and the exposed insert?

I didn't see how a blank could be made specifically as a spinning or casting blank, but you never know. I suppose its the reel seat that determines the type of rod. My small stock of blanks just got more versatile as to what I can build. Thank you Bill

What is the difference between a spinning blank and a casting blank? What would happen if I built a casting rod on a spinning blank? Would I be able to tell that difference? I'm looking to build a couple of walleye trolling rods on a 8 to 15lbs. spinning blank. Bill

Start looking at craigslist or local sellers. Might take a little while but deals can be had. If you see one you like, jump on it, good ones can go fast. Bill

Too bad there is not any Expo's planned for the west coast. Maybe there is not that much interest, but there are some builders and suppliers out this way. Bill

The RDR series looks like the ticket. Wish the longer 2 piece blanks came in a lighter line weight, say 4 to 10 lbs. The fish we catch in the central Oregon lakes are in the 14" to 16" range. Bill

Hi, I'm looking for a kokanne blank recommendation in the with a 4 to 10 pound range to be used on a downrigger. In the NW we mostly use a casting reel with a line counter to fish with a 50' to 60' setback and down to 60' feet or so. Bill

Safety first is what I learned in construction. The guy I bought the lathe from ended up getting a serious lung infection from turning walnut without dust removal or a mask, he spent 3 weeks in the hospital before it got cleared up. Think if I start out just doing cork and eva and learn from there might be the way to go. I have heard sharpening tools has a learning curve all its own so for now re

Just picked up a turncrafter 12" vari-speed lathe and need to get some tools. Any insights as to what tools I will use the most for turning handles? I received a Barracuda 2 key chuck system that comes with a bunch of parts. I know I need to pick up a live tailstock center, but what size/type would work best with a mandrel? Bill

I bought a 1" cork stopper from the local hardware store and drilled a hole in it to match the blank. It fit very nicely into the drier chuck. Bill

This tool probably would not be something an experienced builder would use. But, being a beginner, I found that it would draw a centered line down a blank no matter the diameter or tapper of the blank. There is no need to draw a line down the entire blank, only the locations where the guides will be placed. The price was right and even though it was made for wood working I think there is some cro

I have found that if you hold the marker vertically, the mark will be in a straight line down the center of the blank.

The tool centers itself, as long as the two posts on the bottom stay in contact with the rod blank. Just lock the blank in your wrapper and slide the tool down the blank it will stay centered. No need to run a line down the whole blank just where the guides are to be attached. I have seen CBR make a laser to sight down the blank but this seems to be easier and less costly. Bill

Found a neat little tool to find the center of rod blanks. The pro's on this site probably already know about it or have a different method but I thought it was worth mentioning. I found it at and drilled out the center hole to about 3/16" to accommodate the china marker lead. Just slide it up the blank to make a mark where your guides are laid out. Bill

I have a 9' lamiglas classic glass, 15 to 30 lb. line. It looks like the whole rod is epoxy coated so I'm not sure if it would be worth stripping the guides off. I bought an X11 to replace it and was told by the salesman that I would'nt have that same problem. If this new rod reel seat comes loose it will be the last Lamiglas that I buy. Guess I need to start making my own. Bill

I havent even spun my first pole yet, but have been watching videos and getting info on wrappers. I have a Lamiglass salmon pole that the real seat has come loose and just spins on the blank. What would be the best way to go about repairing this pole? It is out of warrenty so it is either throw it awary or try to repair it. A little about myself, I retired about a year ago from the electrical tr
