6 ft rod blank, was planning on using the new guide concept system. Reel is a Penn Battle 4000 and has a spool diameter of 49.5 mm. I multiplied it by 27 and it gives me 1336.5 mm. That's like 52.5 inches, when I measure from the top of the spool to that it leaves me with like 6 inches to the tip. I assume this system will not work for setting up this rod. So, where do I start from now?

Yeah, I just put it in the middle. Hopefully it will work out. I managed to epoxy the threaded portion on sideways LOL, good thing it doesn't affect performance. Now after it sets up it will be time for the guides. Hopefully I can figure that out.

I finally got the right sized parts for my son's bday rod. I'm up to the reel seat. Where is the best place to position the top reel seat? Just make it so it tightens on the reel in the middle of the threaded portion?

The decorative thing for the rear grip is only listed in one size at mudhole so I assumed it was going to fit. One end of the inside is different like gold with scratches, maybe I'm meant to sand that down?

Seems like I ordered some grip/reel seat components that won't fit my blank. I'm wanting to get this to fit on this blank , but I'm not seeing it happening. The other stuff I ordered was size 16 and it looks like the blank takes size 17 with a .68 butt. Also, for clarity when a rod is listed to take a 7 tip size does a 7 tip fit it or do you need to go one size bigger? Bit disappoin

At least you didn't do what I did, I made me a nice butt wrap and used flex coat for the first time(other times I used pro kote) and it set up too much before I could level it off so not having an alcohol torch I broke out the heat gun trying to level it off and overheated it and ruined the wrap. Hopefully I will be able to cover it up with black thread but I'm not sure yet.

On my trim bands and butt wrap I used size d. Also the trim bands were on the blank under the guides so I don't think the other way would work unless I underwrapped the whole guide and put the thread for the trim bands in that.

I have much better luck with Gudebrod. Hmm I'm using the pro wrap metallic. I did 4-2-4 wraps.

These are big trolling rods... Epoxy is not used on them? I know I scraped like 2 lbs off before I painted it.

I don't know if anybody remembers but I just started and wanted to refurbish some old fiberglass rods... anyway had a few problems on my first one and am looking for reccomendations. 1. Decorative butt wrap. It was a failure, I tried a simple open wrap of 4 silver, 2 blue, 4 silver. Ended up coming loose the first time and wouldn't stay tight the second time so it got crooked, by that time

I'm just starting, but I think it would be benificial. That way if something breaks you don't have to measure you can just look in your book and see what size it is. Also if you built one that you love and lose it somehow you could replicate it.

Somebody told me to use permagloss, that's what I'm going to try. I painted mine with a two part automotive paint though, I'm sure it's much tougher than spray paint. I think I read that permagloss can melt some paints though.

I'm also not sure what sized guides to get. Might use up to 80 lb mono on it. Top will have a size 12 ring.
