If you buy blanks here in Sweden, it's almost impossible to find anything but 2-5 piece blanks. They also tend to be longer. The average spinning rod, except for UL blanks, is 8-10', whereas most rods i've seen om Mudhole etc is 6-8'.

I understad that Tom, but it would shure be nice to se some clips with the pro's in action, marbelizing, painting, casting and whatever. I'm just jealous of your Rod Building Show. The closest i can get here in Sweden is to take the car and visit Marko in his workshop. No offence Marko, that would be a treat. :)

Ok, thanks Tom and Stan. Looks like i've got some experimentation ahead of me before i actually put it on "real" wraps.

I very much liked Tom Kirkmans photos of guide wraps covered with Permagloss, so I decided to have some shipped overseas. I've read the posts about painting blanks with PG and everybody says it cures very fast. Is there enough time to cover the wraps on a rod before it gets tacky? Take a 9' fly rod with snakes for example.

Good for you, Curtis You should always try to endorse the local companies if possible. Although, if you were to use European products you would have a rod you can actually fish with ;)

I find it difficult to find the spinning or casting blank I want so I thought iäll give you pro's a challenge. See if you can help me with this. 1. Material: Eglass would be nice but graphite is ok. 2. Length: 6' or 6'6" 3. Lure weight: up to 1/2oz 4. Pieces: Minimum 2 (this should be the hard bit) 5. Price: up to $30 Give me your best shot :(

I haven't read Tom's book although i'll probably buy it pretty soon. One book that have helped me a lot is Dale Clemens "Advanced Custom Rod Building".

I'm about to perform an -for me - experiment. I want to transform a 2-piece rod into a 4-piece. I'm going to use metal ferrules. Is this a really bad idea or should I proceed with my dirty deeds? I'm aware that it probably will affect the action and stiffnes of the rod but since it is a backup rod it doen't bother me to much. /Magnus - The grim reaper of blanks

I hope you didn't get me wrong Tom, you are doing a magnificent job with this forum. After all it's the knowledge among the users that matters and i can't see any shortage in that department, exept for my own that is.

Thanks bill, i'll ask him. The reason i'm asking is that hes has made a repair of his own on his favourit rod wich wont last long i believe, so i'm planning on having a rod ready for him when it breaks next time.

I'm a member of a flyfishing forum in sweden ( ) that I think is very good in this aspect. New posts show at the top, but you can also check all new posts in all threads and areas and all new posts in threads where you have submitted a reply. The moderator can make good threads sticky so they remain at the top. It would be great to have the same categories here as in the photo section. This

My father-in-law got some old casting rods (60's) with metal reelseats. The seat has some kind of quick-lock. You just press backwards on a button with the thumb, place the reel, and release the button and it slides over the rear end of the reel foot. The blank does not go through the seat, it's glued to each end. Anyone familiar to this type of reel seat and knows where to buy one? Found a p
