I'm about to perform an -for me - experiment. I want to transform a 2-piece rod into a 4-piece. I'm going to use metal ferrules.
Is this a really bad idea or should I proceed with my dirty deeds? I'm aware that it probably will affect the action and stiffnes of the rod but since it is a backup rod it doen't bother me to much. /Magnus - The grim reaper of blanks Re: Ferrule experiment

You won't like it much - it will add enough weight and in places that will make it somewhat unwieldy. Why use metal ferrules? The RodMaker article showed how to make them with integral glass ferrules (Ralph also demonstrated this in Charlotte last year). You wind up with a near factory job and at the expense of very little extra weight and very little change in action or power.
It does require some careful measurement and consideration of the materials involved, but it works very well. Ralph just did 3 for a buddy of mine and he really likes his new 4 piece rods. ............... Re: Ferrule experiment
