Because Flexcoat products makes it a Pleasure!
Oh I also want to add becuase its one of thoughs passionate skills that we can get lost in and get satifaction from.
The effortless drive to build a rod and the creativity to make a tool or jig to help the proccess along and the need to use my hands, and the reward of catching a fish on something I assembled and especially the look on a fishing budd

Just a thought;
Is the bobbin trying to spin while hanging there as they try to do when fly tying.I would try to steady it from doing so or is it going to make that much of a diffrence if the thread unravels some.
It just seems it would be a better wrap if it did not.Or is that over thinking.
Great idea! Thanks!

I took a two section casting blank and decided to experiment and buit it into a fly rod and it likes 7 and 8 wt line very well.I built it with out the common cents system just to see what the out come would be.It works perfect for the small river steel head fishing were there isnt alot of room.
I would build the rod and let it tell you.You can always compare it to othe rods of the same length an

Might be a tad smoother feeling but after fishing 52 years I can adapt to any rod.Its a really personal thing, I prefer breaking them down to make that 2oo mile drive to my fishing hole.
I do like the one piece rods.

There are motors out there designed for running long periods that can take the heat that builds up.
My current motor is from a rotissery oven its built like a tank and can handle the heat and I can use it to apply thread wrap finish and use it for drying .And my speed control works with it.
I am not saying this is the best way.But its more robust than the other ones, and I know from experience w

Hi Bill
I thought the same thing, this will be my third build this way and it works great if the weight distrabution is well planned.
I already tested it with a reel and it will be good to go, I will make adjustments if needed as I get to closer to the glueing up stage.
I know this sounds strange but I have extra rod parts laying around that really dont have any use, I start to think they need

Thanks so much that helped.
The rod is two sections top half being solid fiberglass and bottom section is graphite epoxied together, it should work very well as a salmon rod or big pike rod.

Am I understanding this right that painting a solid fiberglass rod blank, I just scuff alittle then base coat with white then overspray with color of choice and does this apply to graphite as well.
A flat white I would assume. Then some krylon.

I use the simular method that Herb uses but it is a clear elastic from the craft store and I make a loop then thread two to four seed beads over both tag ends and use them to cinch it up enough to hold, its been working for me so far when theres enough thread wrapped I pull the beads off.
I tried the masking tape for a long time and it became a problem for me. I will still use it if it a better
