All my cat rods are forecast SWB blanks. They fit the bill perfectly. My blanks come from fishsticks4u.

AFAW blanks are absolutely fantastic!! Using the tried and true static guide placement will do the job just fine for you. You will find the butt section quite stiff on most of their rods (I don't know which blanks you have coming) so don't be alarmed if you find that you don't have many guides when you get to the butt section. I've actually seen 13 foot rods built with all guides on the tip s

He's out of Virginia Beach, but I don't know if he's planning a trip here or heading up to the Northeast.
Karry, thanks for the reply. I can get something out of fishsticks.

I have a customer that will deep drop for tilefish.
He's looking for something in the 6 to 6 1/2 foot range, fast and can handle up to about 16 ounces of lead.
Can anybody offer any blank suggestions?
Thanks,
/Scott

Jesse, as a self declared internet lawyer :-), what you mentioned has nothing to do with copyright laws. What you do with items you legally purchase is your business, nobody else's.
Additionally, I'd imagine that you would be well within the law if you PURCHASED a legally licensed and produced "NFL Logo Pin" and inlaid it in the grip of a rod.
Legal issues arise when you "

11. Re: RS SU1145
They are on the batson site - rated at 1/2 - 1 1/2 oz. Mine likes the top end of that range.

For your consideration...
I am one of those that asked Mike Barkley for the tutorials. I did not reply. I had one on my screen, but deleted it instead of sending it because I didn't want to clutter his inbox anymore than it most likely already was. Yes, there are some that aren't very appreciative when they are given this type of information, but - maybe - there's a little more "commo

That's a crosslock snap. Jann's has a few. Or do a search for "crosslock snaps" and you should come up with plenty of options.

I'm curious to know what mean by tearing the bait. Can you enlighten me?

The Forecast SWB76XH is an awesome big cat blank. I just built one for a customer in Kansas City and have three on the bench for myself.
The SWB80XH is another great blank, but very stiff. Much more power than the 76XH. Not great if fishing Circle hooks IMO - especially if fishing braid. I noticed a reduced hookup rate "after the bite" with that rod, though I "have" t

Thanks Cliff. I spend a "good deal" of time flexing the rod today exactly in the manner you described. Didn't have much luck with that round but I'll give it a few more through the weekend.
Thanks again,

No, I've done rods with less power, but I've always used Fuji Alcanites or Forecast UD guides - never an issue even with "excessive" amounts of finish (I don't like admitting that though...lol). This is the first time that I've used the braced Forecast S.S. guides though.

Tom/Mick, there is no more "buildup" than I'm normally used to getting. In fact, since I'm getting better at applying finish, I'd say there is less finish on the guides than the majority of the rods or so that I've built in the last year. I'll try and take a pic this afternoon and post. Thanks for your replies.
Lou, I actually thought about bringing the rod by your place before I

The finish has just dried and I put the first bend in a Catfish rod for a customer using a Forecast SWB76XH blank. He wants SS guides so I used forecast HCBs for the project.
When I put the bend in that rod...snap...crackle...pop! Every guide snaps and crackles. It sounds like I just poured milk over a bowl of rice crispies.
What the heck!? Any ideas what could cause this? This is the

Robert, that 1145 is a beauty. I finished mine saturday night and took 'er out for a test run on sunday. Using a Shimano Stradic 4000 and 8 lb Ande it really cast nicely. I did find that it likes top end of that range. In fact, it handled 2 oz easily and could easily go to 2 1/2, or even 3 with care. 1 ounce of lead was not enough to load the blank well. In all, it is a GREAT spanish buster

Yea I read that thread. Doesn't do much good if the quotes aren't coming in at that rate :-)
I'll be hitting the Post Office tomorrow as suggested. The price, based on the rate calculator on the website, was $23 including insurance, unmachinable surcharge and that balloon surcharge thing. I'll add delivery confirmation and everything should be good to go.

28. Shipping woes...
I don't post to the forum much, but I thought I'd share my frustration with you all.
I built a 1 piece 8 foot conventional rod for a customer and packaged the rod in a piece of 2" Black ABS Plastic pipe. The package measures 98 inches long X 2.5" W X 2.5" H and weighs 6 pounds. I took it to a Mailwerks today (authorized shipper for DHL and UPS) and was told that it would cost

That Forecast 4 piece 2 wt blank is NICE!! Being only 6'6" it breaks down to a nice compact package and would be ideal on the small, tight, streams in the Shenendoah.
Fishsticks4U can get one for you quick.
