Looking through the photos sections I've noticed some home made wrappers with an aluminium bed. I was wondering what is that exactly and where would you find it? In particular to Barry Thomas' rod wrapper with the aluminum bed that kinda resembles three X's. Thank you for your time, Jacob

Todd, I was looking at that particular blank, but I really would like a 2pc. Would the MHX 9600-2 be a viable option?

In my pursuit to find a similar blank to a discontinued 7'6" 2pc Lamiglas blank (GSH902MT.) I've come across a couple different blanks that honestly don't know much about. First is a Rain shadow RX7. I've built a few fly rods for my nieces and nephews on their RX6 fly blanks and they were alright. The second option I've found is an Angler's workshop blank, which I know nothing about. I'm

I'm looking for the Matte Green blank (Not sure what the actual color is called.) Not to worried about the year. I know they redesigned them around 2003. I'm not sure they changed the color of the rod then. I had an older one I bought around 2000 that I had to sell a few years ago when I was out of work due to my health. I miss that rod alot :(

I know it's a long shot, but as the title suggest I'm looking for a ST Croix Legend Ultra Fly blank in either 9' 5 WT or a 7'9" 3 WT. If any of you guys have one and are willing to part with it, or know where I can get one please contact me. Thank you for your time, Jacob

I'm only looking for one :) I'm just glad my wife finally decided what she wanted for a reel seat. We've been surfing the net for almost two weeks trying to find something she likes.

I was wondering who out there makes custom fly reel inserts? I'm looking for a purple heart insert for a batson A7 skeleton. Any info would be much appreciated. Thank you, Jacob Burlison

Thanks for the heads up Bill. I've actually seen it there before and if I remember correctly I can easily say it's thinner than .010" of an inch. Probably closer to .005". I've been a aerospace sheet metal mechanic for going on 10 yrs and have a pretty good trained eye. I'll make sure to take my calipers with me on Mon. Once again thanks for the heads up. That stuff is costly and w

I was just looking into how to marble a reel seat. I've also found my local fly shop has a couple abalone sheets that I'm gonna pick up tomorrow. I have a couple old fly reel seats I'm going to tinker with :)

I know this subject is pretty subjective, but I'm still a novice at this and have a quick question. I know what guides I'm getting and just read the article on fewer guides sizes. My question is if I'm building a 9 FT 4WT rod would I still want to use a size 12 stripping guide followed by the size 8, or should I go smaller with them? My running guides will be a size 2 if that makes any differen

She didn't like the graphite in those reel seat skeletons. She ideally wants a lightweight metal reel seat that's completely holographic.

I'm building a deep purple 4wt fly rod for my wife and she is really liking the pac bay illusion guides. I was wondering if there is a reel seat to match and if not, is there something out there that can help me achieve a holographic finish? Thank you, Jacob

Try telling that to my wife :) She thinks he is still to young (He'll be six.) I took him up to Shoup last year and he had a blast, even landed one. Since then he keeps asking me to get him his own rod because my is just too big he says :)

I've decided to build my boy a steelhead rod for his birthday and have some questions about Lamiglas blanks. The blank I'm considering is a G1000 GSH 90 2 MT. I was just wondering if any of you guys have any insight on this blank, or for that matter Lamiglas blanks in general? I've built a few rods before, but not with a lamiglas blank. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks, Jacob.

I got into bass fishing a few years ago and I'll give ya some input on a few reels that I use. The new Curado is a really nice reel. It's easy to set up and casts a country mile. I haven't had many backlashes except in severe windy conditions. It casts light crankbaits and jerkbaits (1/4 oz to 5/16th oz) better than any other of my baitcasters. The sideplates are made out of graphite, so I don't

Thanks for the info I wasn't aware of the half the spool dia. I'll have to take the calipers to my spool an go from there. Looking through all the guides my friend gave me (which was a lot :) I decided to go with what I believe are the minima guides I was thinking about. I do wish I could afford those purple guides. They would go great with the purple wraps I'm putting on it. Now I just hope

Thanks eveyone for the replies. A friend of mine is moving over to Japan and dropped off quite a bit of rod building materials. I'm just going to use some of the guides he gave me (Gotta save money, I'm out on a medical from work.) I was wondering if the guide sizing of a 20,12,8,5,5 (possibly another 5) and a tip top of 5 would work or is that too much of a downsizing?

Hi everyone, I'm new to rod building and plan on building a spinning rod for my little girl's birthday coming up in the end of June. I've got the blank picked out. It's the pink Mudhole blank in a 5'6" Light power fast action. I'm kinda at a stand still with the guides though. I would like to put the Pac Bay minima guides on it, but I'm not sure to go
