It is funny that you suggested the #441 Charcoal, Tom. I stopped in at the local shop and picked up that exact spool moments ago. You were right on - it matches exactly with my Dan Craft FT.

I did a search on this but came up empty looking for the right answer. What type and color of thread do you all use for completely transparent ferrule wraps? I will be wrapping a matte gray finish. There are no inlays or anything fancy, I just don't want there to be any contrast with the purple metallic guide wraps - you know, something really low profile. I would prefer nylon, simply because

I just finished a butt wrap using metallic threads. Now I need to wrap each end - which I attempted twice already. The problem is that the finished wrap has an abrupt edge... its not a smooth, gradual transition to the blank. Even when I wrap over it twice, it still shows a "cliff" or "drop-off" at the point where I had to trim the butt wrap threads. Any suggestions for sm

I have been toying with the idea of wrapping a 5wt flyrod completely with metallic threads. Will this diminish the the integrity of the wraps? If so, how noticeable will the difference be and how long will it shorten the longevity of the wraps? Also, what problems or obstacles should I be aware of while wrapping with nothing but metallics? Thanks for any comments.

Don, not sure if a "blocking wrap" is the same thing, but I like making "security wraps" on single foot guides too. They can help prevent the guide from moving as well.

What John said. I don't think it will matter where the spine is on the bottom section of that rod - cause it really doesn't bend anyway! Even on my 4-piece 4wt FT its hard to tell where the spine lies on the lower sections. So IMHO, you could put the stripper guide on the bottom section to have the logo read right and it shouldn't diminish the performance.

I have no casting time with the Loomis IMX, but you can't go wrong with the Dan Craft FT. Its a horse in the wind and does great with chuck-n-duck, heavy flies and sinking lines.
