Thanks Jim, I’ll have to look more into St Croix. I used to build on their blanks alot and I loved the SCV when it was brown. I’m just not that crazy about blue and green rods they are now offering. I do like the gloss black pearl and satin black finish that they offer, but I wish it was available on a SCIV or SCV. I want a nice sensitive blank that I wont have to paint when I get i

Has anyone used the new Lamiglas Indian River Blanks? I am looking for a few rods to throw light artificials at redfish. The TLP 844 pretty much has the specs I am looking for. Also I have noticed that these blanks have the woven texture on the butt section. How does that look? Will a 15-17 inch handle section cover the texture? I am looking for 7'0 10-20lb 1/8-5/8oz M-MH fast action blank. If

Hey Guys, I'm working on two 30-80lb bottom rods. They are Calstar GF700H. I've never worked with Hypalon before, I've only used cork. I read about installing them and I understand the rod bond will act as lubricant but the grip just doesn't seem like it will fit. The rear grip is 12 inch Hypalon with a 11/16 inner diameter. The rods butt has a diameter of about 7/8. Does it seem logical that I

I'm looking at ATC ferrules from Mudhole. I don't understand the sizes. (they are numbers from 4.0-9.0) The rod I'm working on is 8.5/64 at the break. I bought 4 of them just guessing trying to figure it out the sizes from what I've been told. I was wrong on all four guesses. I don't want to buy every one they have, so can someone please help me with this. Thanks. Ken

The rod doenst hold much value. Its just a Bass Pro Shops special. Should I measure the inner diameter of the rod or the outer to get the correct size? The tips on rods are also measured in 64th's arent they? So would a tip guage also work for measuring this? Thanks Ken Sapp

Im not sure if this is possible so let me know. My teacher busted one of his rods in half. (right in the middle) I told him I wasnt sure if I could fix it but I would try. (I would really like to get an A in his class) Is it possible to just put a ferrule there. If so how do the sizes work? I see numbers and Im not sure what they mean. Thanks.

Well guys I need your help again. I'm in the process of refinishing a blank. I didn't look into it too much and I went to Napa and, since it didn't coat that much, bought a small can of automotive paint. Its called Dupli-Color and it came in a 5 oz spray can. I have no idea if it will work so I figured I'd ask before I mess up. I have a bottle of Permagloss, don't know if I need it to do this, bu

I recently bought a bottle of permagloss and I have been trying it on some old rods. Every time it dries wavy. I cant figure that one out. I let it spin for about 2 hours (I guess it really doesn't need that long but just to make sure) on a 18 rpm dryer. Is there something I could do or that I might be doing wrong? Also what is the color that people mix with it and how does that work? Than

I'm working on a St. Croix II for a friend of mine. Last night I had one of those moments. I was putting the handle on and I reached up and grabbed the blank, I had epoxy on my fingers. (Flex Coat) I noticed it so I put a little bit of alcohol on a rag and wiped it off. While I was in the process of doing that I grabbed the blank with my other epoxy tipped fingers. I didn't notice that and it dri

Hey guys, I've run into yet another question. I've got a rod in for repair because one of the guides broke. The guy also asked me if I could add a hook keeper. I said I wasn't sure. (I'm 16 so he was very worried about giving me his rod in the first place and after that he really didn't want to hand it over) Just to give ya'll an idea Its a factory rod and there is no decorative butt wrap. If you look up his pictures in the Photo Gallery and click on his name, it will take you to his website. I tried to figure out how to put a link in this post but I just can't. It's very irritating. Ken

Thanks for your two cents. It's a St. Croix five casting with silicone carbide guides. I used 2 kinds of hot melt. I've wrapped the thread on and glued it on so hopefully it will be good in the morning.

Before I started building rods, my buddy built one for my dad. My buddy didn't really do anything wrong but heres the story. My dad told him he wanted a big tip and he got it. The tube size is to big for the rod. I've threw everything I've got at it and the stupid thing will not hold. He catches one fish and it's loose. We are going fishing in the morning and he wants to fish with this rod. I fi

All right guys I'm stuck on this one. I'm in the process of restoring an old falcon rod for a buddy of mine. The wrapping is fine but it has a loose reel seat. It will freely spin around 360 degrees. Is there any way that I could get it to stay without taking the whole handle apart and doing it over. Everyone's 2 cents will be appreciated.

I'm envious of anybody who can weave also. All of the weaves are amazing. I was under the photo page just looking and I came across Sanford Hochman's dragon weave. I was astonished at what some of you guys can do with thread. Good job Ken Bro-Ken tackle
