Partridge and Bacon bamboo blanks

I've seen references to blanks made by Partridge of Reditch. Are these made of Tonkin cane and how do they compare to blanks made by some of the well known American builders such as AJ Thramer?

On the subject of cane blanks, what about the Hal Bacon blanks that Dave's Rods offers. How do they compare to Thramer? Thanks

They are all very good. At this level it boils down to the specific type feel and taper you desire in a blank. I personally do not care for the Partridge blanks, but that is just my casting styles and does not in any way mean that their blanks are not fine equipment. They are.

I had opportunity to use a Thramer blank not too long ago. A short 4 weight model. My opinion is that it was well made and attractive but very stiff and heavy for my tastes in a rod of this length and line weight. Again, a good product but not quite for me.

The Bacon blanks I have no experience with. I hope to try one at some point in the near future.

To my knowledge all of these blanks are made from Chinese cane which would be considered from the Gulf of Tonkin. When it was imported and by whom I would have no idea.

Hal Bacon has been makeing blanks for The Leonard rod Company since the early 90s and Hal use to own the Payne rod company and he was also trained by Wes Jordan at Orvis.. I know AJ Thramer likes the Granger Tapers and Hal likes the Payne and Young, and Leonard tapers.. Each builder usually has it's own speciality , so I would buy from a builder that builds rods that you like.. I am really hooked on the rods that Hal builds he builds an excellent rod and the prices are right.. I have some Hal Bacon Quads on the way I am really excited , cant wait till they get here.... Check out the prices on Leonard rods.. Thanks Dave Rods
