I want to apply finish directly over my wraps with no color preserver . My question is , will my thread wraps be more vulnerable to fading in sunlight than they would be normally with cp ? Re: another cp ?

No I don't think so. They'll just be a lot darker. Almost translucent. Re: another cp ?

I haven't used CP in years and have never seen any fading. Re: another cp ?

I don't believe cp has UV inhibitors, neither does permagloss. The 2 part expoxies do have some UV inhibitors. UV rays would cause the fading. Re: another cp ?

I've seen customer's old rods that I built when they left them uncovered in their boats all summer faded beyond belief in one year. I actually re-did one of them because it looked so bad. I think that's about the time I switched to metallic threads. They seem to "weather" the sun light a lot better, but even they do fade. I replaced a guide last year on a personal rod I wrapped with royal blue metallic in the late '80's and the color difference between that guide and the others is noticeable, but not too bad. The UV inhibitors in the epoxy finishes will not stop your thread from fading. Lighter colors are subject to fade. Darker colors less so. The clearer your finish, the more UV will reach the wraps. The more it yellows or browns, the less UV will reach your wraps. Prepare yourself for another compromise - rod building is full of them. ........ Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
