I recently discovered Gehrke's (Gehrke's Gink) website and was amazed to see they are engaged in "mass" producing bamboo flyrods and blanks. My question is has anyone tried them and what is the verdict? Are they any good and if so what are they comparable to in terms of other bamboo rods/blanks being produced today? Thanks--FlyDoctor Re: Gehrke's Bastard Bamboo Rods

The only things I have heard about them have been in the negative column. I have not seen one so I cannot personally comment though. Re: Gehrke's Bastard Bamboo Rods

I got the first blank sold, and it had glue lines.. The rods casted good but were ugly.. I do know that the moisture content was to high.. If you are looking for bamboo blanks I have some of the best bamboo blanks made today.. They are Hal Bacon blanks he is one of the top five bamboo makers today.. Check out my sight under Davesrods.. I own his second 8'4wt made. Actually he kept #1 and because the reel seat was not properly aligned on the original #2, he remade a #2. This is one of my favorite rods to fish over my 'finer' cane rods, it has a nice action, and is as tough as you can imagine for a cane rod. Purists may not agree with his craft as he uses modern epoxies over the nylon wraps and tends to not be shy with it. But the nickle silver hardware and quality of reel seat are beautiful, and my rod shows zero glue lines. George was a hoot to talk with during the project and he & his wife Gladys were great to do business with. I give credit to what they are offering to the FFing community, and I'm pleased to own one. I owned the first Black Raven 8ft 5wt and it was a casting machine, I totally rewrapped it because I just didnt like the finish ..EPOXY.. I had 3 of his rods now I have none.. I buy Hal Bacon Blanks now the quality is 100 times better and the price is better than Georges rods.. Thanks Davesrods Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
