I decided to try a couple of Rainshadow blanks a while back. Both of them looked great. One of them is a ISB781 spining/casting blank. When I spined it I found two spines 180 degrees apart. One spine was a little stronger than the other. Normally I would have just started building it but curisoity got the best of me so I got out the calipers and measured the wall thickness at the butt. In one place I measured .048 and in another spot it was .029 thousandths. Is this normal or out of tolerance for a blank? The other blank was about the same wall thickness all the way around and had a normal spine. I emailed Rainshadow my question on 1/4/02 but never got a responce out of them.

You have one spine and it is the weaker of the two places where the blank comes to rest. The outside of the curve when the blank is bent on that axis is the effective spine.

I think what you do have though is what most of us would like to have and that is a blank that has these lock in spots directly opposite each other. If you don't want it I'll take it!
