Umm, Lite is thinner?

No, just kidding. Actually I prefer lite for just about everything now. It's easier to control when applying, it stays workable longer, it's easier to get a thin level coating on inscriptions, the combination of thin consistency and thin coats allows almost all bubbles to be released. Aside from that I find it is easier to get nice, neatly finished wraps rather than big gloopy footballs (some like this look though). Only downside is you will need to make at least two applications of finish.

Have you tried the Classic Super Coat? It's made or distributed by B.D. Classic Enterprises--I think it's fairly new (but I don't know).

It's advertised as being "thinner"--altho they don't say what they're comparing it too.

Thanks!

Not at all new. Been around for a good while and well liked by many people. At some point after you've tried enough different types, you'll arrive at one that seems to work best for your particular application technique.

I've used Flex Coat on hundreds and hundreds of rods. It's no longer my favorite nor even what I would call the best, but I will say it's hard to go wrong with it. It's easy to use, proven in two decades or more of actual use by builders all the over world, and gets the job done nicely. It surely has to be considered the product that all other finishes are compared to.

Thanks Tom. What is/are the difference(s) between the two? Must be some or they'd be redundant. :-)

I think epoxies are more similar than different just like cars. Sure they're redundant. Builders pick their favorite by brand name recognition or some little quirk about this one or that one that they either like or don't.

Tom, If you can't reveal it on the board, would you email Joe and I direct? I'm new and have only tried Flex Coat Hi Build, with mixed results. I'd like to try some of the others, but would appreciate knowing your favorite so I can try it.

Tom,
Please include me also if you share your favorite thread epoxy. Or, if you have different favorites based on large ocean rod vs fly rod please note both.
