I'm building my second SCV fly blank. The first I used dark brown thread with a pearl trim finish. It was OK visually, but I'm out of ideas for another thread color/trim combo. Has anybody come up with a color combo they like for this "pearl" brown finished blank? Thanks Chris Re: SCV fly blank thread colors.

Chris - for some ideas, try the photo page and do a search to find some of Mark Janeck's pictures. As I recall, he wrapped a couple of tiger eye rods (that are a brown) in 'contrasting' colors like greys, and silvers rather than 'matching' colors. I liked them (and would not have ever thought of them) because they did not look like what my wife calls a "near-miss color match". Re: SCV fly blank thread colors.

Chris ... I tied mine with medium brown thread, added in 2 lines of copper metallic for accent, then capped it with gold. I've gotten lots of compliments on it. Re: SCV fly blank thread colors.

My suggestion would be the Gudebrod 5274 nylon brown and trim with the 290 NCP tan. Do not use color preserver. When epoxy is applied, the nylon brown will pick up the color of the blank and give you a nice appearance. The tan will pick up the color of the cork handle and the combination is very pleasing to the eye. Yes, by not using CP the tan will be able to be seen under the brown, and the guide feet will also be visible but believe me, it is very pretty and classy looking. I use this combination on Sage blanks and it is very very nice. On the Sage, the brown picks up the color of the blank and almost matches perfectly. Any Questions, feel free to E-Mail me. I have found that various shades of browns look nice, my favorite being Chestnut and I've even used copper with nice results on the Tiger Eye blanks for comparison. Ray Re: SCV fly blank thread colors.
