I'm curious to know why people still use hardchromed guides on boat rods, now that we have such high quality ceramic guides available. Re: hardchrome guides- what advantages?

Lower cost, and in many people's minds, greater durability since there is no ring insert to be knocked out. I think both of these arguments could be challenged. .............. Re: hardchrome guides- what advantages?

Many party boat and charter boat folks use these guides and tops because they will take much more abuse from fisherman jamming them into stuff on the boat and generally beating them around. So long as they aren't oxidized, they are strong and you don't have to worry about a ceramic ring cracking or breaking out. I still have customers that would rather have wire guides than ceramics on surf rods for that reason also. They don't have to worry about beating the rods around and breaking out ceramic rings. If they get bent, the folks just bend them back. In addition, thanks to our most gracious FUJI importer, you are basically screwed if you want a FUJI ceramic boat top larger than a size 18. If you want one larger than that, you are limited to a Pac Bay which goes to 20 or you have to revert to a Mildrum or Perfection wire top which go to a 32.
