How far up the foot on a Fuji k series double foot guide do you wrap?

But after that, on a guide like this size 8 (and larger), the foot comes off the blank considerably before turning up towards the frame. Also, the angle of the frame leads to thread rub as you wrap. That's what usually tells me it's time to stop wrapping. How do you do it? On smaller sizes, you can wrap all the way to that bend comfortably with only a small space between the guide and blank (or underwrap in this case) and little to no thread rub. I have always considered the foot to be flat on the blank and the leg to begin where the frame is no longer parallel to the blank. So, I stop the wrap at the beginning of upward bend off the blank. Re: How far up the foot on a Fuji k series double foot guide do you wrap?

I do the same as Ross. Once you start wrapping uphill, you've gone too far.

Thank you, gentlemen. Guess I'll be re-wrapping that one. Per usual with rodbuilding, the simplest answer is the right answer. Re: How far up the foot on a Fuji k series double foot guide do you wrap?

Don't feel bad Patrick. I go a little bit up the front leg on the KWs as well. Guessing maybe 6 - 8 wraps less than what you have pictured. The thing I watch for is the height of the guide foot tunnel. I don't want it too tall so it will easily fill with finish when the time comes. What I have found effective on the KW's is to wrap the fore foot of the guide first, when your line barely comes into contact with the top/leading edge of the guide frame/insert, reverse one full turn and that's your final wrap position. If the thread is fully contacting the guide frame/insert (causing the thread to deflect from a near-90deg angle), back off two wraps and you should be good. This approach has made my KW wraps a lot more efficient & consistent.
Patrick this sounds very similar to what you are doing, I just back off a bit once you are at the contact point with the leading edge of the guide ring. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
