CTS FLYRODS

I everyone, Came back from Corpus with some great fishing this winter.

Now I am interested in a CTS 7wt flyrod. I will mainly be using it for dry fly stream fishing and some nynphing. I was wondering what you all think of which one of CTS rods you would build with those specs.

Thanks

me

Affinity MX is a very good choice from CTS

Mark,
As you can see on the left side margin: HNL Rod Blanks - I am the U.S. Rep for CTS. My speciallity is fly rods.
The Afinity-MX is certainly a good choice - but there is a vast amount of blanks more suited to your needs that are not shown on the CTS Site.

I suggest that you call me - 561 866-2155. Or email me: hladen@hotmail.com to to discuss what you want in more detail.

Mark, I fully suggest you take Herb up on his offer. He knows CTSs line better than anyone here in the states. Plus he is an all around great man. It is who I choose to purchase my CTS blanks through. If you are ever in need of one of his “special sauce” custom tapers, the MDX custom, they are an absolute joy to cast. I have built them in 10wt and 5 wt.

Jared,
Thank you so much for your kind words.
My goodness - haven't thought about the Prime MDX blank in ages.
You're correct - one of the smoothest blanks around.
Hope you are well.

CTS does make some really good fly rod blanks and you would not go wrong with any model as long as the application is right for the type of fishing you are doing. My question, why a 7wt for dry fly work? If you are targeting Bass or similar species that will eat larger offerings, sure, but for trout, it’s overkill. Now a 7wt for fishing streamers for trout, perfect. Nymphing, a bit still on the heavy side, unless you need to turn over double and triple nymph rigs in heavy water conditions or light steelhead work.
If trout are your target species, a 5 or 6 weight will get the job done. An Affinity MX is a very good all around stick for both nymphs and dries.
