Gold frame guides

Has anyone had good experiences with gold framed guides in saltwater? In my experience they corrode while fishing in one day. Can they perhaps be coated with something?

The Pac Bay guides in my experience were a bit better, their coatings were titanium compounds to get the color they wanted, at least that was how the owner described it to me maybe 15 years ago. D & E rods has him make some gold on gold ceramic ring guides many years ago and one of my built rods has seen salt from time to time with no ill effects last I heard, maybe 5-6 years ago. Think I still have a few in my guide drawers, not enough for another gear rod but maybe for a fly rod if asked.
