Surface Prep for Epoxy

One of the recent threads below featured a post touting the old myth about prepping surfaces with coarse sandpaper for best adhesion. For the newer builders out there that may have never seen it, this is the article by chemist and epoxy formulator Ralph O'Quinn from RodMaker Magazine on proper surface preparation for best epoxy bonds. It's worth a read.

To be sure that any contaminants like mold release are not present on the bores of reel seats I put scotchbrite into the patch slot of a shotgun cleaning rod and spin it through the bore with a drill driver for about 30-40 seconds. Re: Surface Prep for Epoxy

Date: March 14, 2024 11:58AM To prep the inner surface of my latest reel seat, I wrapped the scotchbrite around a reamer and put it in the drill chuck. It worked well. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
