Component shortages

Is it just me having bad luck finding components, or is there really a shortage? Guides and tip tops in particular are driving me crazy. ( I know… short drive.)

I haven’t had any issues. Full disclosure, I only build bass rods.

I’ve noticed a shortage made worse by COVID for guides and tip tops during this time of year. I do most of my builds in January through March and buy components earlier now than a few years ago. It would be interesting to know what portion of components in the non-manufacturer distribution stream are bought by hobbyists versus professional builders. I’m guessing many of us build in the cabin fever season and convert to fishing with the weather. Stock will likely increase fairly soon as it has the last couple of years.

Like many of the trades, truckers are retiring with no one that wants to fill their shoes, it's a tough life. Less deliveries and prioritized at that is going to be the norm. Many of the shipping companies are decommisioning vessels also and staying with the lesser fleets. I think we can expect a new norm as we continue on.

We became so accustomed to attaining whatever we want, on demand, at the cheapest price possible. De-transitioning from this mindset is not an easy one.

Hi Bruce,
You've definitely come to the right place with your question. There are component dealers up and down the sponsor list to the left. Let everyone know what you're looking for specifically, and see who chimes in. If your regular source is out, there may well be another dealer with some on hand. It's what dealer networks do best. Everyone loves to buy direct until there's an inventory shortage. Dealers provide very useful supply buffer and it's their business to have product on hand and ship it fast.
I haven't heard much about recent guide shortages so I took a look at a popular cross-section of guides in our warehouse, the Alps XN series in black. Currently we're well-stocked in all four black Alps XN variants with no sizes missing in any series (single foot runners are solid also.) You can check stock availability of anything else Batson carries at [batsonenterprises.com] Hope this helps.

Bruce - What were you looking for? We rarely are out of stock on an item & if it something we happen not to carry, we are always looking to expand our offering and would happily add it to our stock.....Casey voodoorods.com
