Hey all, don't mean to stir anything up like the last NFC blank question :-)

Just curious if anyone has experience with this blank (or the ST-933), which is on sale right now. Its rated as Med-Light...just curious how stiff the butt section is. For comparison, I have a NFC LMX FAF909 (which is a fly blank of course). Just curious if the butt of the ST-993 is stiffer than the butt of the FAF 9 weight.

Simple look at butt diameters and the flex chart tells you all you need to know, the ST 993 under 24 oz. vs 12 oz. for the FAF 909, butt powers not even close, win ST993. Easy to get this wrong because the rods are built so differently, I have done it myself many years ago when using fly blanks for spinning travel rod builds, they always turned out lighter than expected for some time till I got it right in my head. Most successful travel salmon rods I ever made were on the Lamiglas S Glass/Carbon CGSF series Blue Water series of fly blanks designed for the big stuff like billfish. they were just designed to strip your fly in the water to where the teasers were and then just hold on, real meat sticks, not a nice casting rod by any means. 3 models, .790 inch and larger butt diameters, 8 and larger tips.
