Just found this site and I am really excited to have found it. I am still fairly new to rod building, I have built 6 rods and they are getting better each time. Right now I am working on a 6’9” power level 1 slow pitch jigging blank from Thrasher. I am setting it up as a spinning rod. I am having a hard time finding info on my guide train, size of guides, number of guides and spacing.

If anyone would be willing to get me headed in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. I am really excited about this build so I am reaching out for a little help on it.

I am planning on using Fuji guides but I am not set on any model yet. I am a PNW guy, this rod will be used on bottom fish and albacore.

Anglers Rsrc-Fuji in the left margin is a good source, too. I strongly endorse the KR series of guides for spin, and use the KR software to locate and size the reduction guides. Hit the menu button to find other stuff, including the two line stress method of locating running guides. The two line method is actually easier to use than the one line since you can move the guides easily without unloading the rod and retention of the guides while doing the test is much easier.

Tom’s link and the Angler’s Resource KR and New Guide Concept algorithms go together. I use their KR system and check the alignment from choke guide rearward on a straight counter-top edge (Tom’s link). It’s always either right-on or a guide needs slightly nudged in one direction (rod taper variation can cause very slight changes). I add a couple of more running guides than the KR software calls for on rods in the 6’10” to about 7’2” range using progressive spacing back to the pre-set choke guide.
