Hello, on 12 foot plus Bamboo Spey and Skagit rods, is using Casting Rod type Tip Tops of any real issue? My thought is, I think I prefer the low friction & wear resistance of the insert and the somewhat additional strength of the reinforcement legs at this potentially high stress area. I use my Spey/Switch/Skagit rods in estuaries & rivers off the New England Coast fishing for good sized Striped Bass and also Large Mouth Bass in Lakes and Reservoirs. The rods have strong Snake Guides and normally one or two Striping Guides with inserts. I would greatly appreciate feedback from anyone who either builds or uses these type of rods targeting larger fish. My personal issue is, depending on my opinion on any given day is, that some days it just looks odd.

The only "stress" seen by the tip-top is while casting.
When playing a big fish the upper section of the rod is under no stress - I.e. the tip section is pointing directly at the fish. All the stress is down lower.
That is why I am now installing 4 ceramic double foot guides on my Striper rods.
The Stripper and next three are REC Cerecoils .
Or use Fuji K guides.
