Dryer motor

I made a dryer system and the motor heats up during use. I want to know if this is normal and if I should worry about it. I don't want the motor to burn out or fail in the middle of rotation.
It is a synchronous motor that is geared for low RPMs. Shaped like a hockey puck. Does anyone else have a dryer system that uses a similar motor and how much does it heats up. My solution so far is to lean a ice pack on the motor to help with cooling. Re: Dryer motor

Yep ..... normal. The motor got hot on the one I built using an the motor from an old microwave. And the motor gets hot on the drying motor on my power wrapper. Re: Dryer motor

The replacement generic motors I get on @#$%& or Amazon get hot, really hot (like you cant touch it). The motors I got from Mudhole stay cool. Both have never failed (as far as from the heat). I'm guessing my recent motor from Mudhole is on the verge of failing (oil leaking from motor spindle and grinding noise starting to get noticeable). I feel I'm lucky to get a couple of years use from a motor though, fortunately, they're only about $5 each. I've always worried about the ones that get really hot, but they're getting replaced in a couple of years anyway. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
