I'm just about out of my bottle of Chromaseal and I'm looking for your recommendations on a substitute. I purchased a bottle of Mudhole's version and well, it's not Chromaseal. The two times I've used it, it does not dry clear and even after coating with epoxy it left a slight opaque appearance on the bare blank's surface around decals. Anyone use Color Lock (U-40) or Flex Coat color preserver? Any others? Thanks, Dan Re: Substitue for Chromaseal

The fella who came up with Thread Master and Cromaseal now has come up with Gen 4 finishes and Vivid color preserver. Re: Substitue for Chromaseal

I use Flex Coat, U-40 Color Lock, and Al's. I haven't tried the Gen4 Vivid yet. The reason I have three different color preservers is after doing multiple test wraps I've found that most "color preservers" won't preserve the original thread color. Flex Coat and U-40 Color Lock will darken the thread to a certain degree. At this point, the only color preserver I have that actually will keep the original color is Al's. You can get that from Lure Parts Online (Angler's Workshop). I finished some wraps this morning that I had to use the U-40 on because it darkened it just enough for me to get what I needed. Be aware that the water based CP’s don’t tolerate freezing - which is a real possibility in transit at the moment. In fact HFF just output put out a video today saying they are halting shipment of CP until temps come back up to a safer level (they are of course in the frozen tundra of Michigan :). If you are down south and this cold wave passes it should be ok but just think about it and watch the weather - I try to stock up before Winter arrives Re: Substitue for Chromaseal

HFF just shipped me some Gen4 finish, but the temps here in the southern Lower Peninsula are downright balmy right now. 20+ degrees as opposed to -6 and it's supposed to get into the 40's next week with rain. There goes my ice. Re: Substitue for Chromaseal

Yeah ..... I'm in northeast Ohio, and the guys just got some ice to get out on. They aren't happy about the warming trend on the way. Not happy at all ..... Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
