remember the old Quantum Flippin Sticks

they were the green and black ones, they were telescopic, and when you collapsed them, the rod didn't rattle around, and when it was extending you could feel friction as you pulled it into place. So does anyone know how that was accomplished?, I don't want to destroy the one I have just to find out. I would like to incorporate it into the new flippin stick am am building.
thank you for looking and any help you can give.

There was very little taper on the handle section so the parts mated quickly and when stowed there wasn't a lot of room between the sections. Doubtful you could do anything on your new rod to mimic it. The tapers are what they are.
