If you don’t have a lathe, then use your cordless drill. With a piece of threaded rod, or even a bolt with the head cut off, screw the arbor onto the threaded rod, chuck it into your cordless drill and carefully sand the arbor while turning until you get the arbor to fit your CF insert. If you go this route, I would epoxy the arbor into the insert and then ream to fit the blank. The reason for this is to prevent the arbor from splitting. Not that hard to do. If you use drywall tape, tack the leading edge to the blank with superglue. This prevents the drywall tape from ‘walking’ when you coat with epoxy. Although I don’t prefer masking tape it will also work as an arbor for your insert.

You tie flies, Chris?
UV resin (cured with a UV light source) is big in fly tying circles. Nice tip about this technology for rod builders! Re: Foam arbors

So for those who are cutting an arbor into 2 or 3 pieces you are only putting epoxy around the arbor and leaving space in between - and that holds up fine compared to using the whole arbor? Building rods in MA, Building the community around the world Re: Foam arbors

The bond is between the arbor and seat mating surfaces, not the space between the arbors. Other than special gap-filling epoxies, most epoxies are intended to be used between slip-fit surfaces.

Nice tip about this technology > for rod builders! Les...Not real big into fly tying. But I do make lures. I tie jigs, make balsa baits and pour plastics. Wrapping (tying) on stuff to flippin and pitching jigs...even spinner baits. I use the UV resin as a quick fix to hold...I almost always come back with epoxy. I see a lot og guys use that resin as a finish on hard baits...I just not so sure. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
