Guid Spacing

Quick question. I’m building a RX7 salmon/steelhead blank. When I did the deflection test per Batson’s build print, I felt the need to add another guide in the upper tip section. The question I have is, will the extra guide have any effect on the power/action on the rod? Any thoughts on this?

The spacing charts are suggestions. Adding a guide won't effect the power and I doubt you could notice any difference in action. You did well in testing the spacing.

Agree with Grant. I almost always use an extra guide or two. Works fine.

I agree with the others. Doubtful it changes anything. One thing you can do, if you don’t already, is use rubber tubing (instead of tape) to attach the guides. It’s much easier to slide the guides (carefully!) back or forward as needed. Often, I find I don’t need an extra guide after re-positioning.

What guides are you using? Manufacturers usually suggest a generic spacing.
