Tiger Thread Tips

I am building a 9ft 8wt, dark green blank.
A couple of commercially built rods around the house have standard wraps using tiger thread, which I think looks pretty good. I know there's a distinction between a wrap with tiger thread, and what appears to be called a tiger wrap. A tiger wrap is not something I'm shooting for. I bought some Pro Wrap Tiger Thread in green, black, and tan. I thought that the tan would show up fairly light on the blank, and I'd have an attractive wrap. i picked a spot on my blank that will later be covered by the reel seat, and did a test wrap. When I brushed on the epoxy (Flex Coat High Build), the thread soaked it up and I ended up with a very dark wrap, the tiger effect only barely visible in bright sunlight. Will CP keep that from happening? Should I be starting with a far brighter thread combination? I'm starting at zero here, so any conversational type help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Tom Re: Tiger Thread Tips

I don't know what "Tiger" thread is. I doubt it can mimic the moire effect of an actual two-layer Tiger Wrap. Is your thread more of the varigated type thread that was sold many years ago?
By all means, CP will keep whatever colors you have brighter and more vibrant. Otherwise the thread will indeed turn translucent. .............. Re: Tiger Thread Tips

Pro wrap Tiger thread is nylon so you will need CP to preserve the color. Check out You Tube, there is a video of all the colors used with and without CP. Re: Tiger Thread Tips

Use color preserver (CP). It will keep the tread from absorbing the epoxy and turning translucent.

Thanks again everyone, I did a test wrap using CP and it worked as suggested.
