locking wrap on K series running guides?

Hi,
In another thread, David Baylor wrote "I find it much easier to do the locking wrap on L series guides, versus the K series guides. But that's just me. Many others have said they have no problem using the Forhan locking wrap on K series running guides".
Do you wrap around one leg (one wrap) and then follow with another additional wrap around the other leg?
I have only used L type guides with the lock wrap also, but am thinking about trying the KT / KB guides.
Thanks for your replies.

If you're talking about a "Y" shaped single foot where you have two uprights directly off of one foot, you can't really wrap around each leg or upright individually. And as David mentioned the rise on the small ones is steep and wide so any type wrap-around security wrap wants to slip down on itself. This really rears its head on the smaller sizes which you'd be apt to use on the mid and upper length of a rod.

The old stand-by fly rod type single foot ceramics are much easier to use with a Forhan wrap. And... in some home tests one of our readers did they were able to withstand as much or more load than the K series single foots did.

One does not have to exactly do the Forhan wrap to do a wrap that helps stabilize the guide from pulling out. I do locking wraps on all single foot guides, but not exactly the Forhan. Still seems to work just fine. I have no trouble with K series guides.

I always use a locking wrap on the Fuji KR guides

Tom,
I think that I could wrap the legs individually. By cutting maybe 6-12 inches of extra thread at the end of regular wrap. Then wrapping once around first (fishing end of thread between uprights) upright and continuing past second upright and around blank back past first upright, then wrapping around second upright and back around blank (this could be done for 2 or 3 lock wraps). I know this would not be for those who wrap many rods, but I do not wrap very many. After the above explanation, does this sound like a way to do it?
Thanks

Sounds like a lot of trouble to me. One of the things that makes the Forhan Wrap so good is that it really doesn't add more than a couple of seconds to the regular guide wrap.

You can do them on the small guides but there isn't much room and thread ends up high on the leg. The old L style, or what they call fly rod single foots are easier to make these wraps with and they're just as strong if not stronger than the K series single foots in those small sizes.

Just do it the regular way. Weaving in and out through the gap in the guide foot sounds like a waste of time without gaining anything. As Tom stated the locking wrap is very quick and easy to do, even on KR reduction and running guides. In most cases, locking wraps are not really necessary. I do them for a little extra security and because I can.

Gary, give the Forhan or some variation of it a try, I doubt if it costs me 20 seconds a guide. Probably less. I think it's worth while on KT's, pretty small narrow foot. I can't imagine weaving in and out of the legs.

If it matters, I have never had a KT guide (all the way down to a 4 1/2) come out, wrapped conventionally. There is a little locking bump on the foot that supposed to keep it locked in. I use them pretty much all the time now.

Neither have I, but I did find one in my boat one time. Didn't come from one of my rods, but someone lost one. It's so easy and quick I don't see any reason not to do them.

Was it a Fuji guide though? The ones with the “locking bump” on the guide foot?

It looked like a KT to me. John, you are not talking about KB's are you? KT's don't have much of a bump. I just looked at some to refresh my memory and the KT's (size 4) have very little "shape" on a very small, short, foot. KB's have a longer foot with what I would call "barbs" that would seem to help prevent pulling out.
