Baston Rx10 and NFC Carbon Air

For anyone who builds a fly rod with these new offerings, I would love to get their opinion.

I have built and fished an Eternity 2 9' 6wt and a NFC LMX 9' 5wt., and I am curious about the level of incremental improvement to performance the respective new graphite/resin combos will deliver.

I’d be curious on the take you have on the two you have.

I’d be curious on the take you have on the two you have

----------

My take on the two:

-- The NFC LMX 9' 5wt represents a terrific value in a blank at $125, and is worth it at the few times they price it at $250. I would not call it a finesse rod. it is a modern, faster action rod that is a solid, all-around performer. Mine fishes extremely well with an Airflo Universal Taper WF5 line, which is about 1/2 over AFTMA standards. I can bomb out a bead head size 8 bugger on a 60 foot cast or drop a size 18 BWO on a sipping trout along a bank at 10 to 40 feet. I am not aware of a better blank when purchased at $125 or less. Softer flexing or slower action rod lovers need not apply. Winston fanboys, not for you. Very high price to performance ratio.

-- The Eternity 2 is a bit of an enigma to me. First, its cobalt color is either liked or hated. I kind of like it. My 9' 6 wt would qualify as fast action, but not super fast as Batson says, IMHO. The rod really requires a very careful line matching and, I think, prefers a line weighted above AFTMA standards. Lately I have fished it with a Monic Skyline Plus WF6 and I have liked the results. The rod was terrible with an SA GPX, and I really did not like it with a Rio Gold. For dry fly only it casts a Rio Tech Trout WF6 nicely, but if one switches to a non dry, not so good with that line. So overall a good rod but you really need to match with the right line.

My impression is the new material is used to increase durability in the lightened structure. Seen the new destruction vid of the four piece fly blanks?

Assuming the video is the Epitome 1290, At 20lb of *actual* drag capability on a 2.4oz blank, I think it's kind of a game changer, especially for big tarpon.
the GammaBeta is the same weight, it's a wonderful rod to cast and it fights quite above what it feels in hand. but this one seems to be an entirely different animal....
it won't be an armbreaker like the Warhorse is.
