slightly tacky flex coat

I put on a one coat of the lite formula flex coat and that dried fine. then i came back with one coat of high build formula. At 10 hours later it's still a little tacky to the touch. Any advice? Will that dry out or should I apply a third coat using the lite formula. Thanks for any help. Jim

Be sure you have the rod in a warm spot, epoxy cures faster in warmer areas. Example: Air-conditoned basements take longer than garages.

It appears you didn't mix the Flexcoat parts equally. You will need to add another coat. It doesn't matter if it's lite or regular as long as it's mixed precisely. This coat will cure the sticky coat beneath it.

thanks for the good advice, jeff. the measurement was precise, so maybe temperature had something to do with it. I'll try the third coat. Jim

Mine is almost always slightly tacky after only 10 hours but continues to cure over the next 24 hours. If it doesn't fully cure, then mixing is almost definitely the problem. I had that problem some early on and began pouring my mixture out on a piece of foil, mixed some more, and then applied if from the foil. This eliminates the possibility of dipping your brush into some unmixed epoxy on the wall of the cup or in the bottom of the cup. Give it a little more time or move it to a warmer area. If you still have the problem, hit it with a thin 3rd very well mixed coat as Jeff suggests and that should fix it.

Give it at least 24 hours before you decide that it's not going to cure. Having a finish remain slightly tacky just 10 hours after you've applied it is very common.

Jim...I had the same problem this week with a "tacky" finish. I let it set up for a couple of days with no improvement. I mixed up another batch of Flex Coat and applied it......seemed to cure the problem. Thinking maybe my first "batch" was not measured accurately.

I also had a problem with Classic Coat. It was a little cool when I applied it, so I waited another day and it did cure. Like Tom says, give it another day

Jim,
I don't know your location, but if you're anywhere up where I am in New England, the humitity is getting brutal. I'd definatly wait another 10/14 hours before applying anything. If you had planned a 3rd coat, maybe you can just go ahead and do it, but maybe a good idea to just wait a while and see.
Good Luck!
David.

Jim, in my experience, after 1 day the finish is tacky, after 2 days it's waxy feeling, and after 3 days it's glossy and hard. This had happened every time I've finished a wrap. Wait another day or two before adding another coat.
