Know a guy about to go to Okinawa for three years. What would be a good transportable general rod for fishing from the shore. I understand it’s often volcanic rock cliffs, sometimes climbing down to the water. Rod will be built spinning. Re: Rod build for Marine in Okinawa

What is the requirement for casting? Long distance surf type or more along the lines of plugging from a jetty of sorts?

We don’t know what type of fishing he will be doing, but NFC has a variety of different travel blanks for different needs. I recently picked up four different ones and they all seemed very nice.

If it's anything like our inshore fishing, and a 7 foot rod would do, the SB841-3 Rainshadow is a very nice blank. Performs better than I expected for an RX6. CCS = 20.6, 82 degrees, so it's more like what most would consider a medium power than ML, and more like XFast action. SB841-3
Finesse Bass / Walleye General Purpose / 3pc. Travel / Sea Trout 7' 6-12lb. 1/8-3/8oz. 3 0.601 4.5 Fast 2.1oz. ML I've caught everything from specs to a 5 foot shark with mine, with bones, walleye, bass, and pike in the middle. Throw in a spool of Hitena Pureline, 19 pound test with it, casts like most 10 pound braids and lasts a long time. Re: Rod build for Marine in Okinawa

Last time I spent any time in Okinawa was 1975, even then the shore fishing wasn't great, the boat fishing is far better, and larger species are caught. There is freshwater fishing throughout Japan now that is expensive and highly regulated. Re: Rod build for Marine in Okinawa
