Average charge Stand up Tuna Rod

Hi all,
Just wanted to get an idea of your average labor charge for a Stand Up Tuna rod.
It consists of the following components:
Rainshadow RCTB56H
Foregrip BSF14-500-625
Tip Top RTL114
Roller guides HD #31 (2)
Roller guides HD #41 (2)
Roller guides HD #51 (1)
Monogrammed (Decal connection)
Triple wrapped (under wrapped + 2 Over-wraps)
I know some of you may think the second overwrap is overkill, but my customer caught a 400+ lb. Tuna on one of my previous builds last year plus many smaller tuna. I’m not worried about the slight change in the action of the rod. Built 6 a few years back, so your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Ken

An additional wrap won't change the action of the rod. It might change the speed a bit, but on such a rod this is really not an issue.I would suggest a double overwrap on any trolling or stand-up rod from 50lb and up.

I've built a lot of these rods and they're a lot of work. I cannot see making less than $300 to $400, plus whatever mark-up you add to the parts. Back in the 1990's I was getting about $800 for the type rod you've outlined here. I suppose what you can get will depend on your market and customer base, but a good, well made stand-up rod is worth the money.

The question that begs to be answered is how much did you charge him for the rod he caught the 400 lb tuna on? My guess is he's not going to be too keen on paying much more for one 12 months or so later.

He doesn’t question what I charge, my rods speak for themselves. Those rods were built in 2018. Was $475.00.

Prices on most all items have gone up considerably since 2018. Adjust accordingly.

Yes they have as well as availability too. Aluminum Short butts from American Tackle seem to be scarce. No longer the price break either for the silver/chrome.

Ken,
Check the price for both commercially produced rods as well as rods from other builders.

This is particularly important to check all sources in your particular area.

Prices vary greatly, depending on location as well as the affluence or lack there of - of fishermen in the area.

As the cardinal rule of the free market -- charge the price that fits the depth of the pockets in the potential chain of clients.

Best wishes

Then charge as you see fit. A simple Google search will tell you what those rods fetch today.
