Keeping the Inside Diameter Cork Centered

How to you keep your cork grips inside diameter centered when reaming? I am using the CRB reamers from Mud Hole attached to a drill.
I will ream a little bit and turn the cork a quarter turn each time and ream a little more. I am not getting an even inside diameter near
completion. What am I doing wrong? I have tried using drill bits to starting small and increasing the diameter until I get
close to the desired inside diameter and finishing with the reamer, but still not getting even. Do some of you use a drill
press? Any help would be appreciated.

Looks like the problem is solved!

When I use a reamer, I squeeze my hand just enough to stop the grip from rotating then slightly pulse my hand letting the grip “slip” as I apply pressure moving the grip up the reamer to it’s final location. I wouldn’t say its perfectly centered but close enough not to notice when its paired to the reel seat.

I’ll more than likely pick up a set of those bits.

No doubts the reverse pilot bits from Flex Coat are the way to go. They make a world of difference. Before I started using one I used to power ream and had the same problem of keeping the bore, straight. But now, I use one of the reverse pilot bits to get the bore close to the proper size, and hand ream from there.

Problem solved !!!

Reamers are really just for that final bit of fitting. And then, you want to use a reamer that is very close to the bore size. Twist it while pushing inwards, don't use it like a file.

The Flex Coat reverse bits are the best way to get the bulk of the work done. Ream for final fit.

If you happen to have a lathe and a precision rod rest, this setup insures a perfectly centered hole every time.

You can use a series of drills to get up to the smallest hole in the grip and then, convert to a tapered reamer for the final clean up and fitting to the blank. In each case, by spinning the grip, and holding the drill bit or reamer stationary, you are 100% guaranteed that the thru hole in the grip will be centered:
