Will metallic Perl white fade in the sun or would I be better off just staying with NCP white, it will be for a full underwrap. Glenn McMurrian Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 05/02/2023 02:13AM by Glenn McMurrian. Re: Metallic Fade

Metallics will fade, so will NCP nylons.
It's recommended to give it a minimum of one coat CP/sealer anyhow to protect it (plus it helps disperse any air) Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 05/02/2023 02:29AM by Josh Bryan. Re: Metallic Fade

Any colour will fade
To prevent that just give it a coat of water based colour preserver/ sealer. Even if you use NCP poly threads that have a better dye process, and better protected against UV rays, i'd still give it at least a coat of CP Edited 2 time(s). If you want a really bright white then pearl metallic is the wrong choice. NCP Fuji poly white is very white.
Regarding whites fading, to what color do they fade? Re: Metallic Fade

NCP white isn't going to face, but because it is so bright white, any yellowing of the epoxy on top of it will be more noticeable than it is on top of darker colors.

Thanks, Tom. Exactly what I thought. Another question, does CP actually prevent fading of any color? Re: Metallic Fade

No, CP doesn't prevent fading. There's really not any clear coating that can prevent fading of the thread. Even most of the so called "UV Inhibitors" in epoxy are really there to prevent epoxy degradation, not to prevent fading of the underlying thread.

Colour preserver actually protects it against UV rays.
This is the reason why I'll use it on NCP nylon threads (too) - apart from helping it disperse air. Cotton Speed threads will fade too, & it's tricky to apply a coat of CP on that though coz.. it can loosen the cotton, so must be wound on with a bit of tension. Re: Metallic Fade

Color preserver does not protect against UV damage. Not sure where you got that information.
