I just had a thought and wondered if anyone has experimented with replacing the epoxy used to cover wraps with UV Resin.

From Google - "Is UV resin better than epoxy resin?
UV resin cures quickly with exposure to UV light, while epoxy requires time, heat, or catalysts to cure. This means that if you need a resin that will harden quickly, UV resin is the way to go. However, epoxy is more durable in the long run. UV resin is more brittle and less durable than epoxy.Jan 8, 2023 " I believe some are using it for rod building, though.

It's been tried and even offered as a thread wrap coating by various manufacturers. The knock on it over the years has been the tendency to badly yellow and that it continues curing under sunlight to the point where it becomes brittle and cracks. There may be newer UV coatings on the market that have addressed these earlier issues but I haven't kept up to date with them. Try a search on this forum to see what builders have experience with them over the past 20 years.

Hello Bob.

Yes there was a guy named Ken Preston, lived down the road from me in New Bern NC.

He made a lot of progress with it before he died (I miss him, he was a good guy).

If you go to the search and put in his name and "ALL Dates" you should find a lot on him.

Hope this is helpful.

Tight Wraps & Tighter Lines.

Bob,

New Bern, NC.
